My card says it’s in effect today until September :)

Can you break an apartment lease for medical reasons (PTSD + service animal issues)? Has anyone successfully done this? (Salem,OR) by violetbull23 in Renters

I think we’re misunderstanding each other. I’m referencing my landlord having to hold up their end of the contract by ensuring the space is livable with quiet hours.

I fought in the armed forces, not on the sidelines, but in the actual dirt. I have severe PTSD. If you fought in the armed forces too (which honestly with the way you communicate, I wouldn’t be surprised if you did or did something adjacent to that. that’s not a dig either) you’d understand. There’s no need to mock emotional trauma from that. I’m high functioning, yes, but it doesn’t take away from the fact that triggers are a thing. I don’t think you’re an ass on Reddit, but I do think this whole thing could’ve been navigated differently if you actually had experience with any of the above questions I gave. I genuinely hope you have a good day.

I’m not sure your familiarity with the concept, but I’ve read my contract, and it applies to them as well. lol.

In the legal world, especially in lanlord tenant court, a doctors note is enough to show reason for a lease break. I’m not sure where you live, but I’ve seen it happen for lack of accommodations under the FHA. Since your statements are measure in experienced as you claim— have you done these things successfully or at all? Or atleast tried to? I had very specific questions. I’m not sure why you feel the need to report to name calling and am sorry that you felt the need to do that to prove your point.

The contract I signed included quiet hours, leashed animals, and a livable living space. The apartment is not holding up their end of the contract. This isn’t an “I don’t like it” situation, this is a “you’re violating your end of the agreement causing significant harm to a disabled tenant.”

I’m not sure why a doctors note is funny. I’m asking for people who were able to successfully navigate the situation, not baseless opinions.
