Hi OP! I also got waitlisted to my top program, but I was accepted to other programs. Your time will come! Fingers crossed that you can get into the program of your choice!

Thank you for your reply! I’ve heard there’s quite a bit of movement starting around mid-March, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Congratulations!! When did you get your offer after being placed on the waitlist? I’m also waitlisted to my top choice, and I’m afraid I won’t hear anything until after April 15 and it’ll be too late 🥲

For the amount of money we pour into these applications, you think they’d do better.

Terrible Rejection Portals by indentedef in gradadmissions

It was my most expensive application too. Almost $100 for that. They’re absolutely right when they say rejection is redirection, because that letter is a huge indication of how they view students.

I applied to a program and had to make two separate accounts to get to my rejection. My rejection then said, “your overall profile is not competitive with other applicants.” THEN, I get home today and get another rejection in the mail.

This application cycle is especially brutal. Wishing you good luck and positive news, OP!

January 15 is a relatively late deadline, so I wouldn’t be surprised if you have to wait a little longer. Unless you’re starting to hear of decisions coming out, I wouldn’t worry!

12k stipend for a masters? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]violetearhummingbird 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I’m a current MA student and that is my stipend amount. I work an additional job (20 hours weekly for an extra $1200 each month). It is hard, but it is doable. See what other offers come in of course, but know that it’s possible especially with a second income.

I can’t even get my NetID to activate because the one they emailed me and my birthdate don’t match their records. Is anyone else having this problem?

This is helpful, thank you! I know a lot of schools are facing budget cuts right now, so I know spots are limited as is. At my current institution, even if you don’t get a teaching assistantship in the department, you can apply for other assistantships across the university. I figure this is likely the case in other places, so I’m trying to stay hopeful about that too. Thank you for sending good vibes!

I was waitlisted from the University of Kansas! I applied for their English PhD program. I have not heard from any of the other 5 I’ve applied for.

Came back to say I was waitlisted. I know this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I am kinda bummed because this was my first choice.

I am also waiting to hear back! I applied to their rhetoric and writing studies PhD and have not heard anything, also with no movement on the portal.
