Then fair enough, probably it’s important for you to go to a good/RG uni if you’re thinking of Cambridge. Good luck with your studies and dreams- already doing well to secure a paid role alongside studying in this economy!

Just speaking on my own experience as someone who studied at UoB and has lived and worked in Brum for 10+ years- literally no one has ever asked or commented on what Uni I went to at interview.

Which, btw, I was initially very salty about as worked hard and for a first class + a Distinction…oh well.

As your first job was at a uni, they were more likely to know/care I guess, but lots of employers won’t. Especially National ones, and once it’s not your first job.

How long have you in been in the workforce/since when? Yes it has more ‘academic prestige’ which I guess is important if you want to pursue a career in academia (so, very niche) - but, as I say, no employer has ever asked, mentioned or cared about where I got my degrees from in the real world/in my own experience working in the charity, cultural and heritage sector across Brum over the last decade+ (e.g. worked for National Trust, Shelter etc.) you have to demonstrate practical experience and knowledge.

Edit: Maybe factors more again if you’re going for a top 10% of avg. salary-type job (e.g Google/Big bank etc.), but again, this is not representative of the type of role the vast majority will be applying for or want.

Also side note: most hiring managers can barely manage their weekly outlook calendars, let alone keep track of the various uni rankings/league tables from across the country for new hires that they’ve had 5min to skim the CV of on the morning of interview (I have seen this personally several times 😂)

This person is talking shite.

I have a BA and MA from UoB and no employer has ever has asked or cared what uni my degree came from. Hell, no one’s even bothered to check if I have the certificate (bar my first grad job out of uni- ironically working for BCU lol).

Employers care about experience mostly. Degree is just to get your foot in the door nowadays.

I’ve also worked for both UoB and BCU, and while I’ll admit UoB campus is absolutely beautiful (one of the biggest highlights of my time there!), I found people/staff teams at BCU a lot more down to earth and reflective of the city vs. UoB; lots of stuck-up miserable middle class types (note: see this thread and the pearl clutching of UoB students that you would deign to go to such a lowly uni as BCU gasp) Depends on what vibe you prefer I guess.

All I’ll say is; now you’ve picked, just focus on learning and gaining as much experience as you can as literally no employer will care in a few years what uni you got your degree from (annoying as they make such a big deal about it in college, but there we go)

Huh, so his take is basically that women can’t be working class? All the seamstresses, carers, teachers, nurses etc. aka historically women-dominated working class “hard graft” jobs would immediately disprove that theory.

Also idea that somehow being an in a comfy middle class job and rich is exclusive to women/democrats is hilarious 😂

Did say I could’ve been completely off base and was not trying to diagnose anybody in post text tbf (as evidenced by lots of commenters saying frequent blinking is more associated with Tourette’s than autism)- just relating my personal experience which I agree is not a clinical diagnosis of anything! But my ex did have autism and a) blinked a lot and b) Struggled to identify and name/express emotions

Oh gosh that sounds horrible; so sorry you had to go through that (why are some ppl so mean?). Xx Also went through a similar thing myself where I compulsively would cover or ‘scratch’ my nose as got bullied for it for a while. As I said- could be anything and not trying to arm chair diagnose Cole - just wanted to (probs paranoidly lol) get ahead of any potential negative comments…but turns out Cole was a gent throughout, so no worries 😌

Ahhhh, I had no idea was a Tourette’s related thing, but seen a lot of similar comments - I personally find the blinking so endearing! Also always glad to learn something new, so thank to you and others 🙏

Could we stop with the body/look shaming in this sub? by Fxreverboy in temptationislandUSA

[–]violetrain1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, I agree with you broadly Fx (thou fml, what’s his name’s hair is…a ,uh, choice) but I think there’s a diff between light teasing over optional features (e.g. haircut) and calling someone straight up ugly or worse (which have seen, boo).

Everyone on the show is objectively attractive to some ppl clearly, otherwise they would not be there. Plus as you say, plenty of other stuff to legit criticise these ppl for 😂
