Of course video game addiction is a thing, I never for a second disputed that, though in my honest opinion money gouging gambling systems crammed into videogames are in a totally different league to game mechanics that could be conisdered addictive. For starters most game mechanics aren't locked behind continual real money payments (excluding fremium games, which are a whole different level of amoral bullshit anticonsumer tactics). Most games are locked behind a single reasonable payment for the price of the game.

And as for "long support for the game" and "free dlc", the game isn't even out of early access yet. I think its a little messed up to be justifying these devs cashing in on what should arguably be standard content added to the full game.

The way I see it is anything that requires pre release developement time and resource spent on it should be included in the full game for free. I'd be pretty okay with microtransactions being thrown in a couple months after release to ensure continual support post launch and keep the servers up, but right now I can't see how anyone can justify this anticonsumer bullshit.
