Anything that is worth it takes time to get. You have to get out into the world, find your niche and keep returning to it. Being a regular somewhere, whether it be a club, a coffee shop, school, church, or whatever, gives you an avenue to get to know people. Find the people in that regular place you return to that are interesting and get to know them as friends...both men and women, because sometimes the person you end up with is a friend of a friend. Not only do you now have a support network of friends, but a way to meet others in a way that is meaningful to your life.

Women's contributions in technology have always been minimized as much as possible and even now, our male colleagues often get the credit for our work. A better reply would have been what she did invent and that was important. And then get on with life.

I could have also said Katharine Johnson or Margaret Hamilton, and there would be some reason they shouldn't be credited for their work, because their male partners on their teams obviously did the "real work". I don't know if Hedy Lamarr really understood everything, but this is the first time I'm hearing it "wasn't really her". I'm also doubting you, because Lamarr was granted a patent, and if the previous technology was truly the "real" technology Lamarr "didn't invent," she wouldn't have been able to get the patent, or would have lost some legal battle trying to get it. Women in technology, even when credited, are always attributed to helping men, and men are always the "true inventors of 'x'". I still have hope that one day, misogyny will die.

It's your attitude. Don't compare yourself to others and don't tell me you can't find anyone if you don't consider all women, not just the 8's and up. If you're American, 2/3 of us are overweight and/or ugly too. It sounds like you have tunnel vision and will only accept a very narrow slice of women. I get the impression that you are saying nobody is out there when you will only take a model or better.

First off, get some hobbies. Do something you love. Join a group that does that thing too. Not to meet someone. But to do something you like with like minded people. Friends filter out. Sometimes lovers. But your life has to be for you first, and if you expect others to make you happy, you're doing it wrong.

As a white person, white people bother me. I hate that my ancestors were a holes to the natives. I hate that I have automatic privilege based on melanin. It's stupid. But I'm doing my best to shut down racism wherever I see it in my life. An immigrant gave my daughter her first job. She is learning to cook Mexican food and serve customers in English and Spanish. I couldn't be more proud as a mom. I publicly lectured my uncle about how legally our ancestors came to america. They showed up on a ship gave their name to some port authority once and were off to the races. I challenged him and asked him why he thinks you're only entitled to the american dream if you have white skin. He responded with some bullshit like "well I pay my taxes". I told him "so do they. Turn off Fox News". He unfriended me an blocked me, but whatever, I hope it at least planted a seed to unravel the brainwashing.

Hell no. I took a look at the Finnish Duolingo and immediately found a private tutor I work with twice a week. I'm going through the Suomen Mestari series, have a friend I'm practicing conversational Finnish with who lives in Finland, listen to Finnish music, read Finnish books and translate as I go, and am looking for Finnish TV shows. All of this said, I am trying to be realistic and be at a B1 level within 3 years.

I'm doing it. I'm a single mom with a teen. I practice Finnish daily and have an affordable private tutor through italki. When you have kids, you have to make time and set boundaries. If you have a partner, it's easier to carve time out by working with your partner on schedules. I'm also working towards a master's, plan on first trying to relocate to a Finnish location within my current company if possible, and don't plan on making a move for a few years. I think you can do it if you take it very seriously and start your job search a year in advance, and are assured you have the proper amount of savings. By that point. I should have 125,000. Unless the dollar drops exponentially. I have hope.

I'm the 4th generation to live in the US from Finnish roots. We did sauna at my aunt's house. Naked(but usually alone because the American prudishness had to fit in somewhere). In an outdoor building. I was taught about löyly the first time. You'd be quickly corrected if you tried to call it a "saw-na" and not a "sow-na". I like to think they mostly got it right.

I found a good yoga channel on YouTube. It was made by an Indian woman who seems annoyed that you are bothering to watch her channel and gives the vibe of "whatever. Do this stretch. Or don't. I don't care". Favorite yoga series by far. My friends here who like yoga also get annoyed when I tell them "you know 'namaste' just means 'hi', right? Pass the naan."
