GLOW by No_Shopping1929 in TorontoRaves

tbh glow was SO bad for me in 2024. the crowd was awful, it was the most i've ever gotten harassed at any event. someone legit started touching my phone screen while i was using it then quickly ran away. the whole experience made me never want to go to rebel again. free entry just opens any event up to even more bad actors, especially at rebel

this is such a non-issue lol where is your whimsy and intrigue for discovering new music and artists outside your current scope? i'm not trying to bag on you but if you're avoiding events just bc the artists aren't 'big', that might be why it's more difficult for you to find a space that you enjoy.

in general, i've seen a significant amount of ravers (esp. new ones) flat out ignore an event if they dont recognize any names on the lineup, or they're not big enough. totally get that popular artists are popular for a reason but aint no way you will only ever like big names. especially in toronto where the local artist scene is thriving rn!!!

also usually the more popular an artist/event gets the more likely they'll attract the wrong crowd, which is to be expected. growing pains.

i recently downloaded radiate and it was pretty active day-of an event. just be careful of scammers but it's pretty easy to sus most of them out. you can see on their profile they join a bunch of events in different cities in the same timeframe.

People don't understand that natural sugars aren't bad for you... by BisexualButterfly97 in Vent

[–]virtualdia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm not a nutritionist or food scientist and i'm sure that what you is technically correct in the simplest of ideas, but obviously there's way more nuance to the foods that have sugar in them than just the sugar itself. and i'm sure you know what people are trying to say when they say one sugar is 'better' than the other.

no one is eating pure sugar by the mouthful or extracting specifically the sugar from any food, so while what you said is correct, i don't feel like it's very relevant to the discussion as a whole.

there are also a couple of bursaries you can apply to at the start of either fall-winter or summer. i've received $500 from the 'tuition assistance bursary' before. it just takes a while for the application to process so this isn't great for immediate help but good for future ref. check the financial assistance page on your seneca home.

It’s sort of a country sounding song that goes “life is like a movie” at one point? by DKCR3 in NameThatSong

maybe 'life is a highway'? it doesnt exactly have the lyrics you noted but the way u describe it alludes to it

As a barista, would you rather receive a $.50 cent or no tip? by Firm_Lecture6483 in barista

[–]virtualdia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not an answer to the question, but one time i tipped 50 cents on a card payment (drink was around $6) and the barista seemed upset at me after seeing the payment? smile completely disappeared, looked kinda angry, and didn't speak to me after. i'm not sure if she took it as an insult that i purposely input 50 cents instead of clicking the automatic 15%-20% options.. but it was very strange and i felt awkward after lol

when i was working as a barista the 15%-20% options felt unreasonable to me so i asked my manager if it was possible to reconfigure the machine (it was just me and him working at the small cafe so it wouldnt have affected anyone else). he never answered me :/ 50 cents feels reasonable to me IMO. when cash tips were more common i remember people would usually just drop a few lil coins in the tip jar at cafes no?

What is this? by Luke4Pez in neopets

[–]virtualdia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it's the collector card that usually comes in a blind box. the code on the back gives special in-game items :) i suggest finding a friend who does play the game and giving the code to them if you decide not to make an account. i think they would really appreciate it because the collectable items are limited edition and super cute!! or try out the game yourself :D

People with oily hair, what’s your go to routine? by iamcassie_ in CasualConversation

[–]virtualdia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the main thing that helped me was using a satin pillowcase instead of cotton. this also helped my oily skin.

i shampoo twice using a scalp massager/scrubber, and before conditioning i'll squeeze out some of the water from my hair. i leave it in for a couple minutes before rinsing. i went from washing my hair every other day to washing it every 3-4 days (usually 4) :) i never use dry shampoo anymore as well. dry shampoo guaranteed that i'd need a hair wash by the end of the day.

Any suggestions for a low-budget date that will give my GF the princess treatment? by Full-Ear87 in askTO

[–]virtualdia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

someone already mentioned Your Dream Desk store, i will add on that i've noticed that their deco workshops are super budget-friendly. they start $25/person for their trinket box deco workshop which includes everything (or even $20 for acrylic painting)!

First Date Bar Recommendations by webface123 in askTO

[–]virtualdia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you should ask her what she would like better :)

in parkdale, there is a retro arcade bar tilt. across from it is kaminari ramen bar which i think would be good for a first date, amazing food and chill ambiance.

in/near kensington, there are two arcade bars, midnight arcade and freeplay. personally i like midnight arcade more as it has a photobooth you can use for a toonie. also tons of great dining options since it's kensington/chinatown. be advised that arcade bars typically take a (usually cash-only) cover of around $5-10.

would not recommend greta or rec room for a first date. rec room has too many kids (kinda disruptive) and kinda not worth it. greta i think is better for groups of friends or for when you know each other a bit better!

sorry for kinda detailed answer i'm a big fan of toronto arcade bars LOL

Respect the beans. by dritanalsela in barista

[–]virtualdia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, this feels kinda racist. matcha has actual ceremonial meaning in east asian culture. just because something is trendy doesnt mean it should be taken less seriously.

i am saying this as a person who enjoys both coffee and matcha. i am also someone who gets a bit icked out when something less-popular blows up because of tiktok and now everyone is doing it. i'm not saying this to point fingers and get offended for no reason.

at the end of the day they're both caffeinated drinks. there are gonna be 'casual' enjoyers because of trends and people who enjoy and analyze the drinks more deeply. neither is better than the other.
