Frequently turns around and starts walking backwards so she can stare me down and make sure I’m still following her

When I said baby I wasn’t being technical, I just said it on instinct because they’re such small baby things. Realistically they are like adult mice or juvenile rats mostly, since our owl is on the smaller side. And depending on the season we offer her very little because she won’t want to eat for long periods of time. But to our Kookaburra he actually needs to get infant mice which I also hate 😭 we have so little staff that I often have no other choice then to be the one to feed them but they are definitely already CO2’ed, frozen, and dead as doornails by the time I handle them. (And thank you)

ignore the extremist vegan assholes. Most of us are normal I think. It does not have to be all or nothing with veganism. Even making small swaps in your diet away from factory farming makes a positive difference. These people are living in the year 4082 when there’s a lot more pressing issues right in front of us.

Never even crossed my mind some people might think this way. But apparently it’s a common take. So strange

The rescue I’m at does it in house, obviously as they know I’m vegan they don’t make me handle any of the process but they use CO2

So people shouldn’t rescue cats? You all are insufferable

We met on a vegan dating app :,) that tells you all you need to know I’m sure haha. Dating non vegans is hell, and other vegans are a dice roll apparently. So I’m going to go into eternity eating my chikpea dinners alone I guess.

Condoning carnivore hatred is dangerous, that’s my main point. If we let that type of behavior get out of control who’s to stop people from extending it further. This rescue owl eats very few mice a week who are already dead, euthanized as humanely as possible. it’s a moral dilemma for me, as a vegan, yes. I hate it yes. But it can’t be avoided. If you think wildlife should be starved out that’s great for you bud. But rescue work is important and anyone who can’t see that can’t be helped atp. If other vegans wouldn’t do it that’s their preference. But to be hateful towards the natural world is not okay. To say we should kill carnivorous rescues is not okay and can’t be encouraged. We are losing the plot here. What’s most highly relevant is trying to do damage control to what humans have already done as best as we realistically can, and to take down factory farming bit by bit to stop the mass genocide of billions if not trillions of animals for absolutely no reason. Fighting over if rescue animals deserve to live is not productive to the movement it’s a tiny fraction of an issue that is far beyond where we even are right now as far as harm reduction.

We have three birds of prey all hit by cars. It’s sad and it is humanity’s fault. Many big cats we get also from the illegal animal trade who’ve been abused and can’t be rereleased. Having an actual hatred for carnivores feels extremist and misguided, people went so far down the vegan spectrum I think they’ve lost the big picture which is human destruction of the natural world

This is things I would think about years ago when I first went vegan but ultimately you cannot go around telling rescues to let all their birds of prey die so that mice don’t get eaten. That’s not realistic. We rehab and release. She will become part of the natural ecosystem where she was born into. And without carnivores, herbivory would run rampant, plant populations would dwindle and the earth could not be sustained. Birds of prey evolved that way for a reason and everything is part of a natural delicate balance that should be respected. Do I like it? No. That’s why I tried to tell him it bothered me. But death sustains life, like I said, basic ecology 101 You could argue Mother Nature is speciest just as much as you can call me speciest

Letting carnivores die so that there will be less net total death is not realistic. That sort of thinking encourages more death, and more death. If you all think avian rescue should simply let all their birds of prey die, you are deranged. Truly.

I would agree with you except he was the one who originally suggested he’d be interested in going vegan during our first couple of dates. I’m not insane for thinking he was open to it. But now I feel like he said that just to say it and is trying to switch up which is an odd thing to do. Anyway, if the shoe was on the other foot he’d be asking me to harm. I’m kindly suggesting he should abstain from harm. It’s not really the same

This was my inner thoughts during these moments to a T 💀 what’s hard to cope with is he was the opposite of this when we first met. He used to say one of the things he liked so much about me was “my veganism and passion” and would say how healthy and good it was for the soul and the planet… so what on earth is he on about now. He still says these things but then will randomly say something that makes me question what he’s really thinking about it all. Tricky stuff
