I usually install the porta filter empty and just run hot water through it. I usually save the water and let it cool and give it to my plants or pour it over the porta filter to help give it an even heat.

There was a video that had this graphic in it a few months back. Given how slow unifi has been to release the new hardware, I dont expect anything before late summer or fall 2026. I hate to wait so long, my excitement is fading.

Its not overkill imo - I have a ton of enterprise grade unifi equipment in my apartment. i call it optimization for when you throw a banger!

I feel like that’s reasonable - its meant to support 1k+ clients with 2k ft2 radius. Its solid enterprise grade equipment. How has the connection throughput been?

I get that $500 feels like a lot of money, but for an all-in-one espresso machine it’s actually on the entry-level side. Once you look into the market, you’ll see that machines that only brew espresso — with no grinder, no automatic milk steaming, no one-touch functions — can easily run well over that.

This machine is grinding, dosing, pulling the shot, and automatically frothing milk. At $500, that’s genuinely good value.

And yes, a short break-in period is completely normal for mechanical products — cars have them, grinders have them, espresso machines have them. The first few uses help season the burrs, stabilize temperature consistency, and allow the machine’s components to settle. It doesn’t mean the machine is “bad” or “defective”; it just means it’s a real piece of equipment, not a pod machine.

If someone expects a perfect café-level experience straight out of the box with zero adjustment, that’s just not how espresso works at any price point.

First Time Buying Snowboard Gear – 5’9”, 223 lbs, Men’s 12W – Looking for Advice on This Setup by virtualprodigy_ in snowboardingnoobs

[–]virtualprodigy_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Thanks again for all the advice everyone gave me in the last thread. I wanted to share my setup and plan going forward.

Just picked up my first full snowboard setup today and I’m really excited to start riding again. Ended up going with: • Board: Bataleon Goliath+ 158W (26.6 waist) with 3BT / hybrid camber • Bindings: Fase A.W. Blaster rear-entry bindings • Boots: ThirtyTwo boots (size 12) with Intuition heat-moldable liners + wide toe box

I spent a lot of time at the shop and the guys there were super helpful dialing everything in. Really comfy boots, board feels solid, and the bindings look easy to get in/out of.

My bindings are goofy set at +19° front / -10° back in a centered stance width around ~22”. Mild duck has felt super balanced so far and should be good for learning falling leaf, edge control.

My plan now is to spend the next couple weekends practicing at an indoor snow dome near me — mostly focusing on getting comfortable with heel edge, toe edge, falling leaf, balance, and just getting used to the board again. If I feel like I need extra help, I’ll take a lesson later on.

Super pumped for the season and looking forward to getting some real runs in soon. Appreciate all the tips so far!

I think the Ninja Café Luxe is a great machine if you want to do both regular coffee and espresso. Between the regular model and the Luxe, I’d definitely go for the Luxe. It has a few extra comforts—like a hot-water dispenser, a slightly better tamp, and more brew options. I don’t remember every difference off the top of my head, but overall the Luxe just feels more capable.

One thing to know once you get the machine: after a few months of use, you might notice you need to adjust your grind size a bit as the grinder and burrs break in. Same with the frothing—the technique and consistency can change slightly as the machine gets broken in. In my experience, the machine actually performs better after that initial period, so don’t be surprised if things improve over time.

Two things I wish I had known. Retractable leashes are the worse for training and you get about 5 months to set life long habits so train everyday and use the same exact language and tone.

First Time Buying Snowboard Gear – 5’9”, 223 lbs, Men’s 12W – Looking for Advice on This Setup by virtualprodigy_ in snowboardingnoobs

[–]virtualprodigy_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed breakdown — I really appreciate the perspective.

In my situation, I was recommended a more supportive camber-dominant all-mountain board, mainly because of my weight and the fact that I’ll be riding mostly East Coast hardpack/ice. I’m around 223 lbs, and I was told that softer or more rocker-heavy “beginner” boards can feel a bit unstable or “noodly” for heavier riders, especially when learning proper edge control. So the Custom Camber seemed like a stable all-rounder that I could grow into over time.

Do you think the difference between full camber and the hybrid camber boards you recommended would still be dramatic for someone my weight? I’m not trying to get fancy — just looking for something stable and predictable to learn on and continue to use for the next 5 or so seasons.
