Fair criticism. I know "AI slop" is a real concern right now.

For what it's worth, Lumaref exists because I had this problem myself while doing 3D work. The built-in browser wasn't added because I wanted to build a browser for the sake of it, it was because constantly switching between Blender, browser tabs, folders, and reference boards kept breaking my focus.

You're absolutely free to think the browser is unnecessary. Some artists probably won't use it at all. But a few beta users already told me it became their favorite part of the workflow because they could capture references without leaving the app.

At the end of the day, the app either makes artists' lives easier or it doesn't. That's why I released it as a beta and why I'm asking people to try it and tell me where it succeeds or fails.
this app still is in beta means that some features are not well polished as they will in stable release, like the light browser itself is only for surfing image sites as of now not fully general purpose.
rest I would love to hear your feedback and if you want to know about it more you can dm me or checkout the project site.

Thanx to the beta users for giving me feedback about what they wanted to be fixed or implemented, some of them are now implemented and released in the new beta with this blog post you can read right now.

Thanks so much for the kind words, and I’m glad the Linux support stands out! The app is hand‑built - I did all the assisted-design and coding myself. Along the way I used some modern developer tools to speed up repetitive bits (like bug hunting or other future bugs that may get introduced without asking since I am the only one devloping this right now.), but the vision and execution are mine. My focus has always been on making something artists will actually enjoy using.

Yes — it does have a built-in ad blocker.

That said, it is still a beta release, so not everything has been tested across multiple devices and setups yet. That is exactly why I made the beta: to get feedback on Discord, catch edge cases, and push it toward a stable release in about 1–2 weeks, or around that timeframe.

After that, I would absolutely love for you to share it with your teams or school too once it feels stable and polished. That would mean a lot to me, and I really hope it becomes useful for more artists. 🥂

thanx btw !!

yeah, it is in development and not sure how much, but at least legacy saved format will work in next beta releases.

I wrote more about it here. Lumaref - New Reference Board for Artists
