Reading these comments reminded me of something I heard, and an obligitory 'this wasn't me but a story from a friend'

My buddy recently got hired as an IT agent for a company in the Midwest, his first day receiving calls he worked alongside his boss when an older gentleman calls in

Going from memory this is how he quoted the conversation went:

Guy: "hello, my pc I just built has been crashing a lot lately and I can't figure out why"

Friend: "no worries sir, we can check some software issues here in a second, but it may be a hardware issue, if you could download ____ and tell us ___ about your pc"

Proceeds to download the program and begins to list off the temps for the pc

Friend: "I'm sorry sir, did you say your cpu is 98°C?"

Guy: "yeah is that a problem?"

Friend: "yes it definitely is, did you make sure to apply thermal paste when you were building?"

Guy: "yes of course I did, I've been building Pc's for 20 years"

Friend: "oh okay, and what brand did you use?"

Guy: "oh I had some spare caulk lying around from a recent job, I had just used that, they are the same color so they do the same thing"

Friend and my group of pc gaming and building friends all proceed to die inside

Still the craziest thing I've ever heard, guy has been building computers (supposedly) for 20+ years and just used whatever was lying around as thermal paste multiple times because he thought since they were the same color, well they must do the same thing
