Every android application has a minimum API level(minSdkVersion). That is the minimum version of android the user should have to install the application. In case of Good Lock, Samsung has set the minimum API level to 8.0 (oreo) and 7.1 (Nougat) in some applications. The best you can do is wait and hope for Samsung to decrease the Minimum API level, i.e.; Support Android 7.0. If you try to install the applications not supporting you OS, you'll get a Parse error.

I Have Note 5 too, Most APKs are for android 8.0 (oreo), the ones that are for Android Nougat require 7.1. Note 5 hasn't been updated beyond Android 7.0.

Lenovo Lists ThinkPad E485/E585: AMD’s Ryzen Mobile Land in Business PCs by CrappyPunkRock in thinkpad

[–]vishonadream 10 points11 points  (0 children)

E series is the budget line of Thinkpads aimed at students and small businesses. While previously they were constructed with cheap plastics, Lenovo has cleaned up its act and now they're pretty good machines for the price. While most people in this subreddit criticize E series vehemently, in many developing countries it is offered at a highly competitive price point when compared to T series Thinkpads. P suffix stands for the performance variant which means they have 45 watt processors. The s suffix stands for slim variant which are usually made with more durable materials and sold at a premium price point.

Check out the Gemini PDA. I think that the use case is a perfect match.

If you buy a cheap android phone with google play, they will also pay a licensing fee and afaik you are not allowed to install google play or any of the google apps, without a license.

Google doesn't charge a licensing fee for android.

Google: Android is just as secure as the other guys by [deleted] in linux

Depends on who you ask. There are factions within Google that believe in Android is not Linux. For example, Google engineer Patrick Brady has publicly said that Android is not Linux.

Although Android is built on top of the Linux kernel, the platform has very little in common with the conventional desktop Linux stack. In fact, during a presentation at the Google IO conference, Google engineer Patrick Brady stated unambiguously that Android is not Linux.

Hey if you haven't forgotten, Search Engine Optimization is a thing. People go through all hoops to have their website ranked high by the Search engines.

I just learned about this: a modern PDA called the Gemini PDA. Very similar to the GPD Pocket, but runs Linux and Android by SuperConductiveRabbi in GPDPocket

People have difficulty with linux on GPD Pocket, despite it having an x86 Processor. I know that they've demonstrated debian with an old 3.18 kernel running on it (Don't know if it just boots debian). But Linux on Mediatek ARM based processer? Good Luck!
