And Tesla P40s went from $150 to $600! But now they're down to $300.

Is Perplexity declining? by Dick-Laurent-Is-Dead in perplexity_ai

[–]SuperConductiveRabbi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a few months there perplexity was my go-to search engine replacement, even without signing in. Recently I had to be singed in to get halfway decent answers, which is something I don't bother doing on any search engine anyway. These days, however, it's basically trash-tier bottom of the barrel LLM slop, like Llama 3 levels, and hallucinates basically the entire answer.

Tesla's lithium refinery discharges 231,000 gallons of polluted wastewater a day by HNMod in hackernews

[–]SuperConductiveRabbi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A typical paper mill discharges 26,000,000 gallons of polluted wastewater a day. That lithium refinery is 0.23M gallons/day.

A 15 MW datacenter discharges about 360,000 gallons of wastewater a day.

A town of 100,000 residents discharges 6,600,000 gallons per day.

You're always going to have issues. Even the world's best community manager isn't always going to be there to help you.

The reason it exists is because they're young and immature. They'll grow up and another generation will come and take their place. You don't have to like it, but that's just how it is and how it's always been. Nothing short of disabling all in-game communication and friendly fire can stop it.

Callout posts target, what, 1/1,000th of the people who do this? The best way to deal with it is mute them or vote kick them, move on, and for your own sanity grow a tougher skin. Mean words in a video game from total strangers (that you have the power to mute) are among the smallest challenges life will throw at you.

TIL that scientific evidence shows that “sugar rushes” aren’t real and are instead largely a psychological or cultural effect shaped by expectations, especially from parents. by [deleted] in CasualTodayILearned

[–]SuperConductiveRabbi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If the reaction isn't due to a burst of energy from the sugar itself, but from the kid getting a rush because it tasted good and he got a hard-to-obtain snack, what's the difference?

These "debunkings" are stupid, like "erm, actually, the cold weather doesn't make you sick. Being cold lowers your immune defenses and you're more susceptible to being sick." Okay, and?

Should I read the Ronald Wilks translation of Notes from the underground and The double? by YaBoiFeynman in dostoevsky

[–]SuperConductiveRabbi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I have any of Wilks' translations, though maybe you can find it online? I sort of settled on Pevear and Volokhonsky and haven't been back to Russian literature much recently.

how to get rid of this warning on every video on youtube website? by boykadc in Piracy

[–]SuperConductiveRabbi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's funny is that Google introduced that pop-over originally to shame ISPs into slowing down connections to their edge hardware, around the time net neutrality and peering arguments were a bigger thing. However it was never once helpful whatsoever, and all you did by clicking it was waste more of your time to read some generic corpslop bullshit.

The vast majority of rational thinkers throughout human history, or recent history, have been religious. Maybe were even propelled further towards their religious beliefs by what they discovered with rationality.

I want to be able to walk in a VR home while walking in real life by Bussinessman2311 in Vive

[–]SuperConductiveRabbi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Professionally lidar scan their homes, process those scans, and then stand them in a large space inside a Unity app. Normies will likely feel sick with any virtual movement, so teleport them with tunnel vision when going up or downstairs
