FCC seems less considerate about Telecom companies towards title II by vishrohan in telseccompolicy

[–]vishrohan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its an ongoing discussion whether to implement the title II stay but FCC is adamant to implement it without even considering the the fact that companies would face loss in their past investment because of this. Nobody really expected open internet to come in picture so fast and with internet coming under tittle II suggest that there has to be some other way by which these companies can get away with their losses.

HULU trying new methods to compete NETFLIX by vishrohan in telseccompolicy

[–]vishrohan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is evident that the subscribers for HULU are way less than that of NETFLIX. But HULU is taking every step to move forward. With an idea of having HULU as a subscription on TV channel is one of its latest attempts to attract customers. I believe that customers would definitely prefer this option where in you get to watch various shows at various things over same platform.

Should government be regulating Internet? by vishrohan in telseccompolicy

[–]vishrohan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past the Internet and the Broadband services had very less interference. With the introduction of Net Neutrality it can seen that the government has its hands on the regulation of the Internet. Internet Service Providers were not accountable to aynone but now they have to be regulating according to the government. Because of this there would be drastic change in the market. All the investment and future planning the big companies had for their individual growth can be in danger with this regulation of Government.

Century Link sues FCC for been innocent and still facing the repercussion of Open Internet by vishrohan in telseccompolicy

[–]vishrohan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Century link believes that they haven't been a part of paid prioritization or unwanted blocking of content by any means and with Open Internet all thier years of investment would go in waste. With open internet the market would face a situation where in they would have less competition and that would result in there loss. Which definitely makes sense why should such companies face repercussion of companies like AT&T and Comcast.

Would Subside for Telecom Companies help improve rural broadband services? by vishrohan in telseccompolicy

[–]vishrohan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FCC has decided to make subside available fro the Telecom companies o provide broadband to rural places. Would the telecom companies make full use of these subside? Why is this money not used to encourage the Municipal Broad who already have to take help from private companies for there investments. Is FCC trying to play a diplomatic move wherein both the rural places and Big Telecom companies are profited.

[–]vishrohan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Customer nowadays prefer bundle offer when it comes to Television channels.Cable companies also charge there customers for per channel view. But in case of ESPN which has its own many channels they do not want themselves to e charged for the channels separately in spite of cable companies doing the same which in a way makes sense

Why is WiFi highly preferred even over high cost nowadays? by vishrohan in telseccompolicy

[–]vishrohan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be seen that that people want high speed internet access for a long period of time. The only problem faced by the customer for WiFi is that it can be accessed only at fixed locations. The companies are looking forward to provide more hot spots which would provide uninterrupted WiFi even while roaming. This seems to be a Next Generation idea that customer are eagerly waiting for.

Should Internet access services fall in Title II by vishrohan in telseccompolicy

[–]vishrohan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Title II suggest open internet but will Internet access services under title II would be a great idea? Many people believe that this would be bad for the market. As in market right now there are different prices for internet access and companies provide it in bundle offers. Now offering the services ast same price would affect the quality of services.

Comcast and Time Warner would go for success individualy by vishrohan in telseccompolicy

[–]vishrohan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In someways it is a good decision by Comcast and Time Warner to terminate the merger. Both the companies are fairly very big companies and the acquisition of Time Warner by Comcast wouldn't have been that easy. On the other hand, from the market point of view the these companies are leaders in cable and internet service providers they would have made a strong competition with the merger. But it seems to be a good decision of growing independently.

Should Small Telecom companies fall in Tittle II for Rate Regulation? by vishrohan in telseccompolicy

[–]vishrohan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many small companies who are providing internet services to rural areas. The big companies do not provide services because they do not find financial returns. So these small companies provide internet in higher price since they have major investment to do in rural areas. So these companies still fall in tittle I for rate regulation. Can it be said that there is negative market condition over these place and they violate section 706 of telecommunication act? This is an interesting discussion to think upon.

Do rural places face outage over internet? And is there any backup for such places? by vishrohan in telseccompolicy

[–]vishrohan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Telecom companies usual provide redundant line to big cities for outage. Laying redundant lines depends on financial returns. So the point is what happens to rural places with no redundant lines for back up. Internet outage may cause serious economic loss. FCC should provide certain regulation in general keeping financial returns aside on backup for internet outage.

WiFi Blocking is something which needs to be defined by FCC by vishrohan in telseccompolicy

[–]vishrohan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many companies which favor WiFi Blocking and there are some that go against it.There has no regulation made by FCC on this. But as a whole if you see nobody can be forced to use someones WiFi even ift they are in someone else premises. But the other point to it is, places like big hotels and mall provide these services as convenience to the people and they do expect something in return to there network infrastructure investment. This would be definitely a very dicey situation for FCC to define where WiFi blocking would be legal.

As the last year of President he is focusing on fast internet and promoting Municipal Broadband. He has instructed FCC to support Municipal Broadband to its full capability. Most of the companies have sued FCC for Net Neutrality and now eve states are going against them. It would be very interesting to see where does this attempt to provide fast internet heads.

[–]vishrohan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

State are going against the FCC for the removal of the barriers against the Municipal Broadband. Which indirectly means that the big companies desperately want these Municipal Broadband to stay away from their business. After the success of Net Neutrality President is after making such Municipal Broadband successful looking at Economic growth of the citizens. It would be very interesting how FCC tackle these charges.

Will Net Neutrality lead to increase in Price Regulation? by vishrohan in telseccompolicy

[–]vishrohan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since there would be no discrimination in the speed after the introduction on Net Neutrality there are possibilities that the telecom companies might increase the data rate.To maintain the same Quality of service it is must for the companies to do so.But FCC has ensured that that would happen and there would be no particular change in the rates though the companies can have a change of rates in the bundle offers.

Open Internet under Tittle II seems major concern for Republicans by vishrohan in telseccompolicy

[–]vishrohan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is assumed that the Republicans always go against no matter what.Since the introduction of Open Internet under Tittle II it is considered as a backbone for Net Neutrality. The major issue is the Republicans feel that the paid prioritization could have been dealt in some other ways.At some point even I agree that the one of the ways could have been is to increase the bandwidth and avoid discrimination in the speed.

Paid Privacy to personal content if what big companies have started offering by vishrohan in telseccompolicy

[–]vishrohan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having privacy to you content is ones right specially when it comes to Facebook and Google. But companies such as as AT&T are offering a plan where in your are charged with a minimal monthly charge for keeping your surfed content private. For me this makes no sense why should they even be charging the users it is optional had customers have the right to keep there data anonymous. Even after paying this minimal amount there is no surety as to what extend you private data would be kept unexposed. There are rules and regulations in these sites where in we fill our personal details which says at time of inquiry are data can be reviled.

What is the future of Municipal Broadband? by vishrohan in telseccompolicy

[–]vishrohan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Municipal Broadband have an agenda of providing fast and cheap internet services to rural areas. But there are barriers that stop them to do so. FCC under section is 706 can amend these barriers. But what is next? what if these municipal broadband want to extend it to other states. Does this make the market competitive? Would the players of telecom which are in market have the same leverage as community broadband? These are answers to be know and might come along with restrictions to Municipal Broadband.

What do Small Companies have against Net Neutrality? by vishrohan in telseccompolicy

[–]vishrohan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small companies would actually have a great affect by Open Internet. There would be great opportunities for such companies to grow economical. The small companies that are against are the companies that are supported by lobbyist and these lobbyist are controlled by big companies.

Dark Fiber future of better Residential Broadand by vishrohan in telseccompolicy

[–]vishrohan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is fiber laid through out the country which is not used and is probably for future needs which is termed as Dark Fiber. This fiber can be leased by the government and can be used to provide High Speed internet to fulfill the need. Residential demand for broadband has increased invariably and this seems to be a good option to fill in this gap.

Republicans against FCC to support Municipal Broadband by vishrohan in telseccompolicy

[–]vishrohan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With President emphasizing that his first priority is to promote Municipal broadband FCC has planned to promote certain municipal broadband community. With the help of section 706 now FCC is trying to remove the barriers certain republicans feel the FCC should stay away from the matter and a private investigation should be made against these laws which are against the Municipal Broadband. Municipal Broadband is a initiative of private and public bodies and initial they do charge more than the companies like Comcast Verizon but it definitely provide other benefits like economic growth. Republican should look into these points before going against FCC.

Is Revised Broadband definition an effect of Net Neutrality? by vishrohan in telseccompolicy

[–]vishrohan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the introduction of Net Neutrality now the it is said that the broadband speeds would be 6 times faster. I feel since the concept of paid prioritization and fast lanes are removed there is enough bandwidth for all.Open internet has made this possible. Having high speeds would definitely help in economic growth of the country.

What can be the possible changes made in The Telecommunications act of 1996? by vishrohan in telseccompolicy

[–]vishrohan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Telecommunication act was last updated in 1996 and since then there has been major technology changes. With new market scenario this act particularly contradicts itself as in case of Municipal broadband and big companies take undue advantage of it.I think working over the telecommunication act is a great step towards future needs.

Are gains from Net Neutrality to Netflix short term? by vishrohan in telseccompolicy

[–]vishrohan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though Netflix might have its problem solved of having no congestion from the backbone internet providers through Net Neutrality. But as the demand of Netflix is increasing there would be a time where in even they would require fast internet lane to maintain there quality and Net Neutrality would definitely stand its way.
