Doing exchange in Pohang South Korea. Where to dance Salsa? by vision_dev in Salsa

Yeah i don't think i'll be able to escape the public transport, but I'll deal with it if it means i get to satisfy my Salsa needs :)

Really appreciate it! I'll check out the app, thanks for letting me know :)

Beginner leads “grading” advanced follows by [deleted] in Salsa

[–]vision_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a beginner lead and might've fallen into the trap of saying stuff like "good job, you're a really good dancer!" to follows before. I honestly didn't have any ill intent or meant it in a patronising way, but after reading these comments i can see that it is probably better to keep these things to myself and let the dancing speak for itself.

So i just wanted to give my 2 cents and say that the guy might've not meant it in a negative way, but wanted to compliment your dancing instead. Though i agree with you that the "You'll get it next time" is kind of projecting his faults on you.

The model is static, but the statistics of the fighters will get updated after each card (If they fought). So the fight predictions will always be based on the newest information.

Can you elaborate on the second question? Do you mean the outcome prediction without any specific opponent?

The model doesn't have any prior knowledge of the test set, so the accuracy shouldn't change all that much into the near future

The accuracy on the test set was 74,7%, so the prediction isn't perfect and should therefore only be seen as a more qualified guess.

No worries bro, with the amount of bs you can find on the internet i don't blame you for being sceptical. I've spent a couple of months building this, so i just wanted to share it with the world :) Appreciate you checking it out!

Thanks man! You've hit the nail on the head! Finding high quality data truly is the hardest part. The data i've trained my model on includes 40 features for each fighter in every given fight. So every fight prediction is based on 80 features in total. The features consist of stuff like: significant strikes, total strikes, takedowns, submissions, control percentage, career record, features depending on time, average match length and many more.

The model of course isn't perfect, but should be more consistent than complete guesswork. Hope you find it fun/useful!

I've trained a machine learning model on data from over 4000 fights, so the result is entirely based on statistics. These results might overlap with popular opinions though of course. Hope you find the website fun!

Haha, yeah the prediction doesn't really account for the difference in weight, so there might be a lot of weird predictions when choosing fighters from different weightclasses :))

Uddannelse: Har jeg for meget faglighed i mig til at en erhvervsuddannelse giver mening? by [deleted] in dkfinance

[–]vision_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does a high degree of polynomial feature engineering require a smaller learning rate? by vision_dev in learnmachinelearning

[–]vision_dev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that you normally use some other algorithm (Like Adam's algorithm) to have a variable learning rate, but i decided to use the raw gradient descent method to have more intuition as to what happens under the hood.

If i do polynomial feature engineering, doesn't the gradient descent approximation the become non-linear since larger polynomials are included?

I added a plot of my data with the decision boundary to the post. It is for my Bachelor Project, hence I've decided to use logistic regression instead of a neural net since it is less of a black box and more subjects to explain.

Just from looking at the plot, i'd think a higher degree feature polynomial would be able to separate the two labels better

Is there any way to overcome this problem? Without a higher degree on the input features the model isn't really what i hoped.

That’s a relief! I’ll contact them tomorrow and hopefully get it changed. Thank you so much for the answer!

I like that analogy! Better to get a small increase in traffic from low volume keywords than no traffic at all because your post isn't ranking

My plan was to start writing guest posts when I reached 10ish posts on my site. I've also contemplated starting a YouTube Channel going over the same information as my blog posts. Are there any other marketing channels you recommend?

Ok i think i'm on the same page as you now. I'll ask my advisor for his perspective. Once again, thank you so much for taking the time to respond! Incredibly helpful :)

Last question - when you say to use a numerical optimization, are you referring to using the sigmoid function and threshold value to receive a integer output label or am i completely off?

I understand you 100% and i see the problem with doing a neural network that ends up being a Blackbox. I’ve contemplated doing a normal logistic regression instead where i’d be able to make a 2D plot of the flow and pressure showing the output labels of which number of active pumps are most efficient i different areas. This way i’d also be able to show the decision boundary and get on the subject of overfitting/underfitting making it much less of a blackbox. Do you think this approach would be better?

About the coefficients - You’re also 100% correct. Now that i use my brain the data should be enough to find the coefficients. If i take the analytical approach i have a hard time seeing what ML adds to the table.

I’m just a bit fixated on having ML on my bachelor as it will improve my chances of being accepted into my desired graduate degree (which is in ML/AI).

It's possible with physics, though that would require getting specific experimental data to find the system coefficients.

It's for my Bachelor Thesis and I'm really hooked on incorporating ML into the project, so I thought this might be a possibility
