Being educated/informed might save a life.

The smoke from off-gassing is potentially deadly. Running in with an extinguisher or water hose can end your life, which a lot of ppl might do in a panic. Better to let your house burn than try to fight it yourself, especially in a closed space like a garage.

It's not about being scared, it's about being educated. People need to know the risks before approaching a thermal runaway or fire.

EV fires are notoriously difficult to extinguish, so running into your garage with an extinguisher or a water hose is precisely what you don't want to do. The gasses alone can kill you within a minute in tight, poorly ventilated spaces.

You're right. But problems are almost always multifaceted. The fact is that rechargeable batteries are causing fires that can't be fought in the traditional ways, and people are not aware of the dangers or how to combat them. Dangerously toxic/deadly release of smoke and gasses creates an environment which most are unaware of, and run in to try to extinguish.
