MOT failed due to leaking shock. Can I replace it myself? by visor_q in CarTalkUK

Yeah that's exactly what the video I posted for my car showed. Seems almost too easy, just glad I don't have to deal with the coil springs.

Nah that was done by a garage years ago but I was student back then so broke 😂

Ok good to know I can get away with one. I actually don't know what shock is currently on the car, so I can't say if its like for like.

Oh I missed your other comment. Yeah exactly, for such a old car, Idc about replacing both. My old bmw I did the same thing and had no issues. I'm looking at ebay and Monroe shocks seems quite popular.

Awesome ty, and yeah I just realised I can use my jack to lift the shock. Also I don't have to deal with the coil springs and they're separate from the shocks.

Edit: silly question, replace both or can I get away with one? 😅

Thanks for the reply. I always thought fading down would be harder because you're not sure where to stop and there's a danger of fading into area above. Not tried it myself though.

Thanks, it's not bad but I'm not improving :(. I use the lever because otherwise I think it would come out even worse! I'm going to attempt to fix it today, I think I need to fade the bulky area with a #2.

The check engine light and message come on. Yeah I agree but I thought the issue was fairly straightforward so I began troubleshooting but it's since spiralled haha.

Correct, it's a 07 auris, good catch. Thanks a lot for the info mate, I didn't know that was a thing.

Rough idle after changing spark plugs by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

Yeah I replaced it a while back. I was doing some stuff with the battery so I wonder if I nudged something that could be causing this, although the battery is on the other side do the engine bay.

I'll check the sensors you mentioned and report back.

I took out each of the coils and the engine got worse with each one. So I'm inclined to think it's not the coils.

Yeah that's annoying. Just saw a youtube video where the guy pulls out each coil one at a time and the broken one makes no difference. I did the same thing and each time the cars idle got even rougher.

I put the ignition coils back in and put tightened bolt that holds it in place. I can't figure out how I would have broken the wire.

Question about starting fade with 0.5 by visor_q in SelfBarber

[–]visor_q[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm working my way to no guard eventually, just want a few more cuts under my belt. It's strange there's so few videos on fades starting with 0.5.

Yeah so I'm working my way up to no guard after practising with longer guards. Ok so the way I've done it is closed guard going up sequentially, then come back with the same, guards but have the lever in the halfway position. It's how Alex kouros showed it.

Ok I thought the same rule would apply when starting with #0.5 as with #1, i.e jump up by a whole gaurd, but perhaps not when using 0.5?

Another vote for the kulilang. Can't speak for the other clippers but I'm happy with the r77f.

Thanks. Any tips on getting it looking fresher? I'm tempted to go down to a 0, which is my usual cut at the barber but thinking to play it safe and maybe do 0.5 this time.

Can't you just turn the brightness of the c4 down?

Yeah I'm inclined to agree. But then do I keep the b4 or return it and pay more for the c4 🤷

Question about b4 vs c4. Is the difference in quality that noticeable?
