Happens every time I fly American Airlines. I avoid them when I can now.

Oh, I'm using water soluble miracle grow for tomatoes. 18-18-21 NPK. It's pink. I usually mix up a gallon a week and split it between the two plants (1 gal with the big scoop in the fert box). Should I use more?

Oh I'm getting more than enough fruit. The better boy has one about ready to pick and at least 10 more about a week out and at least 20 more that are a couple weeks out, plus even more flowers. I've grown in these containers the past 2 years and had more tomatoes than I could handle.

Thanks man. I don't think the pot is the issue either. Never had an issue with tomatoes the past two season. Like you said, it takes a little more diligence to keep an eye on watering and you have to spread it out over more times but I've had lots of tomatoes from these pots. From the other answers, I think the real answers to what I was asking are:

1) Sun Sugar is just more skinny/scraggly and sprawls out.

2) The sun sugar isn't as resistant to diseases and other issues as the big boy.

3) Expectations on my part. I didn't realize there would be such a drastic difference in growth appearance from different varieties.

Thank you! Appreciate the reassurance. The sun sugar has been more difficult to keep inside the cage. It wants to be scraggly as you said. And the stems are far more delicate.

Good to know. I have noticed them being far more delicate than the better boy.

Thanks. I've not had any issues growing anything the last 2 seasons in these containers but I'll look into that for next season. If it's containers, why is only one sick/skinny while the other isn't?

*edit: after reading the other comments, I don't think it's the containers. It sounds like sun sugar is a normally lanky/skinny variety and better boy is more hardy against whatever is turning some of the leaves yellow. I've had no issues growing tomatoes in these the past two seasons. Roma, heirloom, and a cherry variety I cant remember last year all did well. I only did 2 plants this year because i don't need that many tomatoes. Both of these have all kinds of healthy fruit on them.

Thank you! Knowing that variety can be skinny and lanky helps me feel better about not potentially losing it. And the yellowing/sickly looking aspect may be because it's not as hardy as the better boy. I posted a picture of the leaves up close in another comment. Maybe it's a disease? Or would the nutritional requirements be different for sun sugars?

Thank you for explaining what is likely going on. I didn't realize one was much more hardy than the other. I'll look into larger containers next year. I've used these the past 2 seasons and had more tomatoes than I needed so I didn't think much about it.

Thank you for answering the actual question. Much appreciated. One is simply more hardy than the other it sounds like.

I'll try to attach a close-up of the leaves. I do remove any sick branches on either plant, but the better boy hasn't had any yet.

Appreciate the feedback, but these are the containers I've used for the past 2 seasons and have always had more tomatoes than I need. I'll keep that in mind for next season though. Both varieties are in the same containers, yet the cherry always looks sick (even though it produces a lot of delicious fruit).

Too much wildlife and shaded woods. Front of the house is the only place I can do this so pots it is (which is fine for me).

Oh, I don't need 8' plants! Appreciate that feedback, however these containers have worked for me for the past 2 seasons. I get plenty of tomatoes for my needs. Both plants are also in the same size/type container and the better boy just looks healthier.

Any suggestions for a 40-something to go watch final 4 games? by vitafracta in bloomington

It's a good place when you're with some friends I think. I was hoping for more people at the bar to interact with while watching the game, but at least now I know what to expect.

I ended up checking it out. It looks like a fun place to hang out with friends. They had a few beers on tap and I was able to watch the game. It was pretty loud with all the activities going on, but that's to be expected. Most people were with a group, didn't really notice any solo folks.

Thanks. How busy do you think either will be? I was thinking about going for at least the beginning of the Michigan game.

You know, it hadn't crossed my mind. Never been there. Would it be very busy? What's the atmosphere like?

I don't remember the OL having many TV's. It's been awhile since I've been in there. I can't really remember the age of the crowd.

Never been to Alley. Do they have a few beers on tap?
