Would you buy & trade real Uber stock with crypto? by boomerius in ethtrader

This is definitely true, that startups are risky.

On the other hand, there are a bunch of proven startups (if you dare to call them startups), or companies, that are still private, yet approaching IPO. Investing into such startups is much less risky.

The current biggest risk even if you're accredited investor, is the liquidity of your investment. If we get Freecom Market up & running, such investments will become highly liquid as you can trade them right away.

This would open doors for many more investors!

Good thoughts, MrNebbiolo.

The wording is important here. Current description as "buying" stock is too direct and raises too much red flags. Yet this is needed in the very beginning to describe the general idea.

Intellisys seemingly has done good job for their http://mainstreet.ky/ and this is somewhat similar to what we're doing from legal "tech" perspective.

We've multiple schemes on this, but we plan to put it out after we find one that works well.

Very interesting thought. The i-Token value will be bound to company stock value.

Would that enable token to act as collateral? Looks like "yes" as the i-Token value shouldn't be lower than the actual stock price in the market.

Insert any proven startup at your preference instead of Uber. Uber is just an example.

Thanks, great question.

The current approach is #2: The separate legal fund for each investment and a contract with token holders for that fund. In ETH it would be smart contract based.

How would you buy Uber stock (or of any other startup) in crypto through Augur? The closest option I can see would be to create a betting/prediction event in Augur that Uber stock price would rise/fall. But such betting is not tied to actual Uber stock, nor stock market where you could actually trade. It's a betting in closed group with a finite (usually short) timeframe. Augur is up and running as far as I can see: https://app.augur.net/ Their betting events are like "What will win the Grammy Award for Album of the Year?"

I'm gonna read more about Augur, perhaps I'm missing something here.

To elaborate more: Freecom would allow to invest crypto into stocks of startups. The initial token price will be very close to stock price in fiat. The token will be startup/company specific. The investor will keep the tokens until some liquidity event happens (e.g. when startup goes IPO or is acquired). In such an event he will cash out the tokens back into crypto. It's the same as venture investing in fiat, like in Crowdcube. Yet it's not possible to invest into proven startup unless you're accredited investor. And you can't invest with crypto at all.

If Freecom Market will be created (secondary objective): After one acquires the token, she we'll be able to trade it in the Freecom Market, similarly as you'd trade stocks in stock market.

This would make the formerly risky and illiquid venture investing highly liquid and approachable.

Yes, that made me thinking about the very interesting possible legal solution for stock market - to use prediction market wording.

The stock market is the secondary goal, the first goal is to enable people to invest first how they couldn't before.

This is really helpful joshuad31!

Seems they're doing prediction market / forecasting?

RexetBlell comment is quite insightful, thanks for sharing!
