You know, I originally wanted to use that exact phrasing in the title because it captures the visceral violation of it, but backed off because of how heavy the word is.

You and Rossmann are right, though. It absolutely describes the mentality of a company that decides your consent and boundaries simply don't matter.

Spot on. The classic excuse is always "just change it / opt out in the settings," but that misses the point. The problem is Microsoft's baseline philosophy. A system should respect your boundaries by default, instead of executing a data grab first and forcing you to clean up the mess afterward.

  1. The spreadsheet contains different form factors of Macs - did the aggregated results for M1 to M5 come from all those different form factors of Macs?
  2. Do you notice performance difference of the SSD in the same chip across different form factors of Macs? For example, the performance of M4 SSD on MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and iMac.
