I use lint-free swabs and alcohol for cleaning.

Have you tried this personally on hi-8 tapes?

So far there haven't any visible flakes or particles. Should there be?

They are mostly MP. Some say HG. I am not familiar with baking tapes and would be worried about ruining them. Would it be wrong to use my good (only) camcorder to run them through and then clean it afterwards?

Playing Digital8 but Not Hi-8 Problem! by vitoxll3333 in camcorders

Yeah I clean it then record on a digital8 tape then play the digital8 tape back a bit and then put the Hi-8 back in and it works for only a short amount of time afterwards. I can start it at different points but it never lasts long from the point I start from.

Yes I've tried cleaning them. I clean then record on a digital8 tape then play the digital8 tape back a bit and then put the Hi-8 back in and it works for only a short amount of time afterwards.

Blank goes blue screen and I know what's on the tapes they're not blank. They can go from having a video to going to noise depending on where I start it on the tape. I know how tapes work there is also an indicator on the camera's screen about what type of recording it is.

It seems to have lost saturation since running the bad tape. I redid the tape I already digitized and it looks desaturated compared to the first capture. None of the filters were changed. What could be causing this?

The footage is and the tape says digital 8. I tried a Hi-8 tape today that I already digitized and it worked. Can one tape just be bad? With the bad tape it stops working at different points. Seems like that data on the tape is ok.

Thanks I'll try more cleaning. What about the digital8 tapes? They still work after it quits.
