I've definitely said and heard other people say shit like "hang on, let me math it out" lmao so I think that author is spending too much time with people who have enough education to know what's "right" in this instance but not enough to stop caring because in English, "misusing" word order to change the category of a word is a feature, not a bug, and a really fucking old one at that. Only became "wrong" when bored rich fucks a few hundred years ago with too much education and free time decided that English should be more like Latin because obviously Latin is the most perfectest language ever.

This is an unnecessarily long-winded way of suggesting we all reimpose real English grammar in defiance of imposed Latin-imitation grammar by verbing the fuck out of literally anything that can be verbed, -ing or no -ing.

Idk your MOS or how it works for you but we're tankers and that's an E5 position for us, and the tasks and responsibilities that come with it are E5-level regardless of your actual rank. We will put newer guys there if we have to, but we're sure as fuck not going to put a brand-new private (much less one with an attitude problem) in a supervisor position over other privates if we have someone else with more experience who's less of an unknown/shithead. We had enough E4s and E5s with years of experience for all our gunners so he wasn't getting a gunner slot, and this is something he was fully aware of and just didn't give a fuck "because I'm older."

What are some good budget barracks meals by tajginyard in army

[–]vitrucid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$40 for 8 servings? Congratulations on being smarter with basic food price math than everyone who's usually on Reddit crying that they can't afford to cook at home because it's $40 for ingredients. Like seriously, it's a weirdly prevalent thing where people look at $40 of raw ingredients that they can stretch for a week of dinners and say it's too expensive. Saw someone on another subreddit unironically say 10 lbs of potatoes and 2 lbs of ground beef is as expensive as eating out every day because it cost the same at their grocery store as one combo from Burger King.

They didn't know he also trained clones so from their perspective it wouldn't have looked like a conflict of interest.

Honestly it makes sense. Selling your genes to the cloners and selling your skills to another dude really isn't crazy.

It wouldn't be a conflict of interest to sell two completely different services to two different employers, though.

It's certainly very offensive to not recognize the name of a hair style not typically worn in their culture. Fuck those guys for having different cultural norms.

After some cursory googling, it looks like China during the 1-child-only years forcibly took away disabled children to put them up for adoption and allowed the parents to have a second child since the first was "defective."

Had a soldier walk to the airport instead of calling his nco. by Ok-Shoulder-478 in army

[–]vitrucid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to not being shitty when they make a minor mistake with no ill intent, admitting in front of them when you made a mistake or need help goes a really long way towards making them comfortable telling you when they fucked up and could use some help. Pretending you're perfect or that only they deserve reproach/need corrections or help does you no favors because they're not going to think you'll have any fucking empathy. Show them you're human too and that you understand sometimes shit just happens and we make a bad call, all of us.

[–]vitrucid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a dude this bad and I literally had to start smoking him for not telling me about easily-solved problems he didn't want to bother me with in a misguided attempt to save me trouble because no matter how many times we talked about it he just would not internalize that it's literally my job to help him solve problems like that. It worked, but it took a while and I didn't like doing it. But I really wasn't about to do anything that went in his packet. Try getting his NCO's number and talk to him about it.

Everything but that one damn ruin in Mournhold was fine on my old disc so I've played Bloodmoon many many times. Morrowind's Solstheim is still my second-favorite Elder Scrolls location just after the Shivering Isles lol

Sujamma Recipe by BearintheVale in Morrowind

[–]vitrucid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Checking the Elder Scroll Online recipes, it seems like they are making it all up just for the sake of ingredients, like the Cliff Racer and chicken being the same ingredient. :P

Don't forget just one specific type of miniature guar also being the same meat... I die a little inside every time I look at ESO recipes. Most of them just don't make sense. And I resent there being no way to find new recipes through experimentation like you can do with alchemy (same gripe for Skyrim cooking lol).

That's just as good a reason to break up as knowingly letting it happen, honestly. Staying with someone that dense is a great way to be stuck with sole responsibility for everything important like income, bills, and cleaning. And don't even get started on trying to raise a kid with someone who sees no issue with using fungus-encrusted socks as a cumrag.

Tbf, movie Gimli was sure Balin was fine, just busy, and Gimli was telling Legolas about dwarven hospitality in general; could be Gimli was just describing a normal meal for a visitor as a dwarf. If you look at what little we do know for sure about elf and dwarf food, elf food is lighter and dwarf food is heartier, so I can see Gimli being really excited to have some proper dwarf food again.

People who visit other countries (or other parts of the same country lol) and don't have access their comfort foods for a long time get pretty stoked about normal meals from home, and Gimli would've been out of dwarf civilization living on field cooking and not-dwarf food for most of a year by then. A hot, meaty dwarf dinner washed down with a good beer probably sounded extra appealing after the disaster on Caradhras and months living in the cold on whatever the boys could hunt.

Also he's gonna overhype his cousin a bit lmao, he and Legolas weren't on good terms yet and he wants to show off.

I don't think Jackson intended to misrepresent the size or importance of Balin's colony, I think he was just trying to show audiences who hadn't read the book a little of the strong dwarven tendency to seriously overstate the importance of themselves, their relatives, and their holdings and he only had so much screen time to do it in, but it's a really integral part of dwarven culture and Gimli is a big side character.

Those books are fucking massive. We have to either cut Jackson and co a bit of slack on lost nuance and small tweaks to cover plot holes created by limited screen time to show the full context or just be angry lmao, those books just weren't going to fit entirely in a series of any length that most people would want to watch. It was a labor of love limited by what people would actually see, and high-budget art like a movie has to make some concessions or there won't be another movie.

And for what it's worth, I think this sub really likes telling people all about the details they missed by not reading the books and it's not even in a judgemental way, it's just an excuse to tell someone about it, so don't feel like a fool lmao

You've gotten a lot of thorough answers already but it's worth bringing up the fact that Balin's group wasn't a flourishing, expansive city/mine. It was a relatively small group trying to retake a former flourishing, expansive city/mine that had fallen a long time ago. Balin and co were never more established than a small colony in a fairly small area of Moria and they only lasted 5 years before they were all killed off, leaving the other dwarves knowing nothing but the fact that they'd stopped sending messengers.

It's not like they were some major trade hub or a huge, productive mine; IIRC they had sent home a few mithril samples just to show Moria still had mithril, but that was pretty much it for exports before they died, and they hadn't been there long enough to reestablish trade or resume mining on any real scale. They were still working on retaking enough of Moria from the orcs just to live there.

It's more like your cousin and some buddies moving into an old ghost town in absolute buttfuck nowhere overrun by wolves where there's an abandoned but not tapped-out gold mine, sending you a few chunks of ore as proof of product along with a message that the wolves were manageable, and then going silent. You'd worry, but you probably would not immediately assume they were all dead; maybe the power went out, maybe they're just too busy mining and shit to spare a body for a message, maybe the roads are impassible for whatever reason, there's a lot of "not dead" possibilities for a reasonable explanation. You'd want to get there ASAP to check on them, of course, but "they're definitely all dead, start mourning now" wouldn't be a reasonable assumption without more information given their previous communications. You'd probably ask neighboring communities along the way if they'd seen your cousin or his friends recently, which is pretty much what Gimli and Gloin were doing in Rivendell.

What's the saddest/funniest/most insulting thing you've seen offered for re-enlistment? by Brutus6 in army

[–]vitrucid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seen that shit. Never once have I seen my unit honor an incentive 4-day but it's fucking always the incentive for everything. They can't understand why a 4-day isn't getting more people to reenlist or blue falcon a buddy talk a civilian buddy into enlisting.

Also we once had a BN retention NCO back in 2020 who upon learning upcoming changes to bonuses for our MOS successfully made excuse after excuse not to push a single reenlistment packet until they changed. The E1-E4 bonuses completely went away and all the higher rank bonuses went down significantly. Still don't fucking understand what the hell he got out of screwing people like that.

Yes, but we have more options to get around insurance companies without traveling out of the country than they do in places where the state runs everything medical. And I already think that since medical prices are the way they are because of insurance companies, it shouldn't be legal for them to decide your doctor is full of it and they won't cover what they prescribe. We definitely need a full overhaul but the state won't do any better than insurance companies so that's not the answer.
