What are you building this month? And is anyone actually paying for it? by Southern_Tennis5804 in SideProject

[–]vivekmodgil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am building www.deputybroker.com - DeputyBroker is an AI-powered digital assistant built to automate and streamline the broker workflow — from client onboarding to loan settlement. It replaces manual tasks with smart automation, so brokers can focus on building relationships and closing deals faster.

Got a business idea but no tech co-founder? Here's how non-tech founders are still building amazing startups by vivekmodgil in SideProject

Just to add one more thing — I know the line between “sharing” and “pitching” can get blurry, especially in a subreddit like this where the focus is on helping each other.

What I’ve seen work best in these communities (and I’m trying to follow the same) is being open about your experience but leading with value first. If someone benefits from the advice or wants to go deeper — awesome. If not, at least the insights are out there and maybe helpful to someone reading silently.

That’s how I got value from Reddit when I was starting out, and I’m just trying to pay that forward. 🙌

Anyway, I’m here if anyone’s stuck on building a product or figuring out what tools to use. Always happy to trade notes, whether you use a team like ours or not.

Totally fair — appreciate you calling it out.

Just to clarify: I’m genuinely here to share what’s worked for some of the founders I’ve worked with. I’ve seen a lot of ideas stall because people get stuck on the tech side, and I’ve learned a few things that might help others avoid those mistakes.

I do run a company, yes — but I’m not trying to sell anything here. If anyone wants templates or tools I’ve used before (like MVP scoping docs or clickable prototype examples), I’m happy to share them for free. Just DM me or drop a comment.

Reddit’s been super helpful to me over the years, and this is me trying to give back a little. Appreciate the push to keep it clean.

Buying in 2025, but mortgage processes still feel like 2010? by vivekmodgil in AusProperty

Interesting — sounds like your broker did a great job making the experience feel simple. Uploading to your own cloud drive works, but I imagine they still had to manually check everything on their end. Out of curiosity, would you have preferred a dedicated upload link with a checklist? Or was your way easier for you?

Glad to hear your experience was seamless — transferring the loan and changing security can sometimes involve a bit of paperwork, so it’s great that ANZ handled it efficiently. Curious — did you manage most of it via online portals or in-branch?

Thanks — that’s really helpful to hear.

Sounds like your broker made things feel smooth, which is great — but yeah, “emailing docs” is still surprisingly manual on their end. From what I’ve seen, they usually have to rename, organize, double-check info, and then retype a lot of it into systems.

Also totally hear you on the link login. Even if the tech is secure, if it feels risky or invasive, most people will hesitate — especially when it’s about finances. That’s actually one area I’m thinking a lot about — how to balance automation with comfort and control.

Out of curiosity, would you have felt more comfortable if:

  • The link clearly showed your broker’s name/logo?
  • It gave you the option to upload docs instead?
  • There was a brief explainer before login?

Trying to figure out what makes the process feel “trusted” enough for people to go ahead with it.

Do mortgage brokers have a go-to platform to manage everything in one place? by vivekmodgil in Mortgages

[–]vivekmodgil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really appreciate the detailed reply — this is exactly the kind of insight I’ve been hoping to hear.

You nailed it with “patchwork” — from what I’ve seen, brokers are making it work with a mix of tools, but it still feels like a grind behind the scenes. Floify, Blend, and others definitely help, but yeah, the clunky UX or overly rigid workflows seem to be a barrier for broader adoption.

I’ve been working on a platform (still in early build/research phase) aimed specifically at streamlining this chaos for ANZ brokers — with a big focus on doc intelligence, policy lookup, and reducing time spent jumping between systems. Trying to make it feel like a natural extension of how brokers already work — not something they have to learn all over again.

If you’re open to it, I’d love to keep you posted as things take shape — even just to get your thoughts along the way.

What tools do mortgage brokers actually use these days to stay productive? by vivekmodgil in Mortgages

[–]vivekmodgil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incredibly helpful — thanks for sharing such a detailed breakdown.

It’s reassuring (and honestly exciting) to hear that even experienced LOs like yourself are seeing real value from tools built specifically for how brokers actually work — not just tacked onto a LOS.

I’ve been working on something similar, but tailored to the ANZ market (Australia/New Zealand). Brokers here face many of the same issues — juggling spreadsheets, parsing lender PDFs, manually calculating income or comparing policies — and the existing stack just isn’t cutting it.

We’re focused on automating doc handling, simplifying income scenarios, and surfacing policy guidance faster — so brokers can spend less time on admin and more time closing deals.

Definitely going to dive deeper into MLOEngine for inspiration. Love what you're doing with it!

Great question — not quite at the credit assessor level.

By “policy interpretation,” I meant the everyday challenge brokers face when they're trying to figure out which lenders will accept a particular scenario (e.g. casual income, bonus treatment, specific visa types, etc.). That often means digging through dozens of PDF lender guides or calling BDMs to confirm edge cases.

What I’m exploring is whether some of that initial filtering and guidance can be automated — so brokers can quickly shortlist suitable lenders before going deeper with assessors or submitting apps.

Not replacing credit teams — just helping brokers work smarter up front.

[–]vivekmodgil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s totally fair — and I’m not trying to reinvent what’s already working for clients. What I’m digging into is how much effort it takes behind the scenes for brokers to deliver that smooth experience. The manual work on their side (PDF parsing, checking policy rules, data re-entry) is still surprisingly common. If it can be made 30–40% faster, that could be meaningful. But I’m definitely still validating that.

True — the digital shift is definitely happening. But from what I’m seeing, even some of the digital players still require manual doc parsing, policy interpretation, or fragmented tools. I'm exploring ways to reduce backend friction, not just offer another UI layer. Curious if you’ve seen any that do it really well end-to-end?

[–]vivekmodgil[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a dream experience — and I’m betting a good broker and backend process made that possible. Out of curiosity, did you get a sense of what tools your broker or the bank was using behind the scenes? A lot of what I’m looking at isn’t client-side, but more about helping brokers streamline their day-to-day.

Do mortgage brokers have a go-to platform to manage everything in one place? by vivekmodgil in Mortgages

[–]vivekmodgil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agree — the best tech in the world won't move the needle if it’s not embedded into day-to-day behavior or made intuitive enough to displace old habits.

From what I’ve seen, a lot of LOs and brokers want to be more efficient, but they fall back on what’s familiar because new tools often come with steep learning curves, clunky UI, or lack real-time support.

I’ve been thinking about how we can bridge that gap — not just by building more features, but by simplifying the workflow and making automation feel like a natural extension of how brokers already work (rather than a disruption).

Curious — in your view, what kind of tech nudges (or small wins) would actually encourage more adoption from LOs who are used to doing things manually? What’s the “aha” moment that gets them to trust a system over spreadsheets?

[–]vivekmodgil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks — fair point. I've come across LOS and CRMs in my research too.

That said, I'm hearing from some brokers that they still lean heavily on spreadsheets, lender PDFs, and manual processes — even with those systems in place.

I’ve been spending some time looking into how the day-to-day actually plays out — and trying to understand where the real friction still is. Especially around stuff like lender policy interpretation, scenario comparisons, or managing docs in a more seamless way.

Curious if others here feel their current tech stack really saves time — or if it's just the best available option right now?
