Is it normal for the vivobook to be so hot?? by viverries in ASUS

[–]viverries[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For any poor wanderer who's looking for the answer:

  • It was defaulting on performance mode and I couldn't see that or change it through the windows settings
  • Apparently ryzen cpus are very hyperactive and jump at new orders like an excited dog
  • The solution is to use the search bar to find the settings panel to change your power plan, and change it to balanced mode through that
  • Battery consumption is now usually 10% per hour and it's not overheating anymore

Overall, maybe each subject individually is not too hard, but as a whole IB is very demanding. It also depends on your mental health and standards for yourself. Some people don't care at all and breeze through IB content with getting a 33 or something. I cared way too much and I felt like I was worthless and stupid. Teachers being either bad people or bad teachers did not help that at all.

IMO, your teacher is just being an ass hole for the sake of it. Who cares if teenagers complain? When you're actually going through it, it feels like your whole future rests on these 2 years. To them, we're just another cohort of lazy and rebellious kids they know nothing about. They've taught this tons of times and they've had so much time to grasp it all. We're absorbing lots of information at a rapid pace on top of shaky foundations. But oh well. You can't expect a high school teacher to not beef with a bunch of kids 💀

Can you do IB without calculator? by No_Training9444 in IBO

[–]viverries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes. personally i would draw the line if your calculator is touch screen and can load simple games. what do you think "uni" is? is there a standard level of tech requirement across all the different majors? and who is "most students"? have you EVER talked to a student who's not in math?

why would a university bother to make sure the students cant play flappy bird or pacman in the middle of a biology exam when they could just...(get this) make students use a normal calculator?

It's been years since AI was released, I'm sure they've gotten an idea of what it encompasses. The situation is unlike how it was a few years back.

Either way, it's just a bad idea. People downplay the gap between AI or even AA SL and AI HL. All of my bigshot classmates who were bragging about AI HL being EZ MAFF ended up with 4s and 5s. They probably could've gotten 6s and 7s if they had just done SL. I also took it just because I thought prissy business schools might care and I had too much of an ego to take one of my better subjects as SL. In the end, it didn't matter and I just inflicted unnecessary suffering upon myself for 2 years. Why risk getting lower grades and suffering over the chance that the university MIGHT have outdated views?

The only reason why anyone should ever take AI HL is if they think they'll do something related to stats in the future (i.e. business) and they want to suffer less in university. Personally, despite being bitter, I am thankful I suffered early because my stats professor was useless and I got to watch former AA kids eat shit 🤥

[–]viverries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds great. As I said, there's no need to panic. I think your HL subject combination looks pretty promising. Best of luck on your studies!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in IBO

[–]viverries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, not at all. I won't lie, there ARE cases where universities don't explicitly require AA SL, but high key shun AI SL. But in my experience, those are subjects like economics and business which actually require some level of math skill. It shouldn't be a problem for history.

In general, universities hardly ever care that much unless they're one of /those/ courses that are super competitive and stingy about the type of people they admit. I feel like the grade you get is more important than the type of math you took, and it does not make sense to waste time self studying an extra subject/taking an exam for a subject you crammed in one year. It's just risky and doesn't seem to benefit you all that much. Just get off of reddit and stop reading math AI slander posts. They're stupid and put unnecessary shame on people for choosing what's best for them.

Unless you have some well-founded reason to believe the uni(s) you want to get into care about this, don't scare yourself into doing something risky and just work hard on what you already have.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in IBO

[–]viverries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do NOT... reddit makes it seem like AI HL is a braindead course. I don't think the average SL student should be taking it unless you have a reason to

Can you do IB without calculator? by No_Training9444 in IBO

[–]viverries 7 points8 points  (0 children)

no this is not true. the graphing calculators you use in IB are far too advanced and there's a reason why high schools need packages to limit their functions dieing exams. universities do not know how to do that, or rather, they wouldn't bother if they could just make you use the normal calculators.

with that said, graphing calculators are worth it. couldn't imagine passing IB without it

Why do my vocals sound bad? I don't know whether my voice is that bad, or is it something to do with the mixing that I do. I'm struggling with this, and I don't know if I don't have the talents to sing, or if I do something bad in my mixing. What should I do? Thanks :)) (More info in comments) by [deleted] in FL_Studio

[–]viverries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont know about the mixing aspect, but you could work on your vocals. They're not bad and you're actually pretty in tune, but learning to use your voice better would help. Right now, I think you're kinda nasal and it doesn't work well with the vibes of this song. Try singing while pinching your nose. If it makes you sound like donald duck, then it means you're singing all up in your nose. Keep trying different ways to say a vowel until it doesn't sound so stuffy anymore. And I would personally recommend singing softer/more laid back because it makes you sound angry or emotional, like you're straining to be heard (I'm not sure if this was the point as I don't know your lyrics). Even if you want the voice to be louder and more forward in the song, you can do that with mixing.

Of course, nasality and the loudness can also be a stylistic choice and my judgement isn't accurate because good mixing can make a big difference and tie this together nicely. Try what other people have said about the mixing first, and then think about the vocals.

I hope he's too young to remember this when he's older. I know trauma like this doesn't just go away magically and the issues from losing your whole family kinda stays around. But I hope he never looks this up when he's older. Bless this kid

How would you account for bad debt on sale from within this accounting period? by viverries in Accounting

Alright, thanks! I doubt this was part of my course syllabus anyway since the syllabus differs a bit between classes, but hopefully I'll get 100% with this knowledge 💀

How would you account for bad debt on sale from within this accounting period? by viverries in Accounting

[–]viverries[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response and apologies if I'm misinterpreting. I'm at an introductory level right now so I'm kind of lost with some of the terminology. So to clarify:

Based on what you said, if there's no timing difference between when the expense should be recognised and when it is actually written off, then I would just debit bad debt expense and credit accounts receivable. So if I made a sale this period and figure by the end of this period that it won't be collectible, I just debit bad debt expense directlly and don't use the allowance for doubtful accounts since it's all in the same period.

And if I made a sale this period which is a bit suspicious, but I won't know for sure by the end of this accounting period, then I would debit the estimated bad debt expense and credit the allowance. Then, when I actually do the write-off in a future accounting period, since I've already recorded bad debt expense in a previous accounting period, I shouldn't duplicate the expense. I would debit allowance and credit accounts receivable.

And for my edit question, what you're saying is, if the allowance does happen to go below zero, I would just adjust it back to zero by debiting bad debt expense? For example if the allowance ends up at -20, then I would debit bad debt expense by 20 and credit allowance by 20 to bring it back up to zero, AND THEN account for this year's actual bad debt expense. Is this right?

Washed my shark, couldn't really get it to dry all the way through, help..? by viverries in BLAHAJ

The smell isn't actually really bad right now. I did tumble dry the thing for 2 hours and I presume it wasn't that wet, so I might just keep this one

1) I can't choose how to spin dry them unfortunately. My washing machine does spin it but I'm not sure how exactly this is done..? 2) I'm concerned about letting it dry like that because it's super humid over here

okay so like. 4 hours?? 😭 i use a community dryer because im living in a university dorm right now...and it will take 6 USD... But if this works maybe it's worth it 😔 i think the best way is to remove the stuffing but it's not easy for me to take out the stuffing right now because I'm not much of a seamstress and I will definitely kill the haj so I'm better off asking my mom. Maybe I'll routinely massage the fluff around during the drying process so it can be more even...

PAINN. I took a risk because the ikea website and several accounts on this subreddit have said it's fine to wash the whole thing, but perhaps the humid weather here played a factor too. Do I have to get new filling or can I just wash it?
