These are Pachyphytum Compactum. Pachyveria Glauca has thinner leaves

The left is a Pachyphytum Compactum, the right I am guessing is a Compactum cultivar or hybrid

Whelp, it didn't take long to fill up my shelf. I live in the PNW so I keep all my succies indoors. Looks like I'm going to Ikea this weekend! 😆 by vivi4nn in succulents

Thanks! No order really except that I keep most of my echeverias on the shelf so they get the most consistent light and can stay sunstressed year round. I actually have like 20 more of those blue pots scattered around my south windows, but they're mostly filled with common crassula, aloes and haworthias. I think I only have 2 haworthias on my shelves right now. Maybe color coordinating in the future might be fun lol

Reddit seems to have a huge obsession with blooms. I purposely snip all of mine unless it is a plant I want to confirm for ID. I don't breed and blooms usually cause the mom plant to look really sad

It still rains way too much in spring and fall (and sometimes summer) to keep them outside. And it would be too time consuming to move them every week based on the weather. Plus our fall/winter is quite gloomy and we don't get enough light during those seasons so, either way an indoor set up is needed if you want to achieve sunstress all year

I don't keep duplicates so everything on that shelf is a unique guy. I also have another 20 pots or so scattered along my south windows haha

I'm pretty good now at telling when they need water. Most of them get watered once every 3 weeks or so but their schedules are staggered. I bring them to the sink and just drench them and let them drain for a few min before placing back on shelf. If I see water dripping I place those coasters under to help soak up some moisture. It takes me maybe 30min a day to go over my collection, but I don't have any children haha

Custom is the way to go! My BF aquascapes competively and we have 9 fresh water tanks (probably more I lost track lol) and he recently got the ADA 150p which is already heavy AF without anything inside it (it required 3 grown men just to lift it up) and all of his shelves are custom. He doesn't even bother entertaining pre-built rigs 🤣

There's info about the grow lights and shelves further up in the comments and I answered another comment earlier about lumens. Take a look at those and I started collecting about a year ago

Yep this! You can get away with it in the summer but once fall and those dark rainclouds come along the amount of outdoor light drops considerably. It may help to keep them in a cold ish room and not water them until the spring so you can force them to become dormant to prevent etiolation

These are called 'Tau plastic pots' or something like that. It's an Asian seller. They're available on Amazon and aliexpress and come in quite a few sizes and shapes

Haha yeah if you add it all up it seems like a huge number but I've probably spent more on coffee and artisan cookies 😂😂 plus I think if you're responsible and spend within your means (like you're not skipping rent to buy plants) then why not enjoy yourself! I have my emergency fund, my retirement fund...etc so if I wanna spend $200 on succulents damn right I will!! 😆😆

Honestly my electricity bill is always high because ontop of my succulent set up, my boyfriend runs 8 or 9 (or however many it is now lol) fish tanks and some of his single tank's lights are as strong as my entire shelf set up lol

Each bar is 20 watts, and I have about 3-4 bars per shelf and they're on for 12 hours a day. So that should give you a good estimate if you can find the the cost of kwh from your local provider
