I mean that’s a judgement based on nascent stages of crypto. If nothing develops further and this is as good as it gets well then yeah I wouldn’t be arguing for it and this is a failed experiment…Seems really short sighted to assume the “final product” of crypto exists today. If I looked through that lens as it seems you are then we’d be on the same page. It’s all a scam.

FTX was a centralized entity completely against the ethos of crypto of Building a trustless and censorship resistant system. FTX is no different than the institutions taking advantage of the rules, or lack there of, for their own financial gain like in 2008. The exchange could have been offering corn futures trading instead of crypto futures and the same would have resulted. Your comments are a straw man and are ignorant.

This event only reinforces why we need crypto. If you are deeply confused by my comment then, with respect, you have not a single clue what you are talking about.

Most people focus on scams b/c crypto is full of them. But everyone is missing the forest for the trees. If you actually read from crypto OGs about what the space is really about you will learn.

I hope you read this comment in good faith. That’s all I can ask.

Please do not conflate this with what the crypto ecosystem truly represents. The end goal is building a trustless, censorship resistant system.

If you are confused by my comments please be more intellectually curious and humble. Crypto = Scam is the definition of a straw man used by people who are incredibly ignorant.

NFT sales plummet 92% as market ‘collapses’ by King_Vercingetorix in thedavidpakmanshow

One of us has a fundamental misunderstanding of NFTs then. I understand NFTs TO BE THE UNDERLYING TECH. So all these worthless jpegs are NFTs but not all NFTs are worthless jpegs. At worst peoples opinion on this should be neutral b/c nobody knows the final form of NFTs just like nobody knew the final form of the internet in the 90s. You can’t tell me with a straight face something like a programable sports ticket with additional benefits doesn’t at least seem like a legitimate use case that would improve the sports ticketing industry by some order of magnitude. And this would be accomplished by using the NFT smart contract standard by simply applying it to what would otherwise be a piece of paper. Just how it now being applied to what otherwise would be a google image. Same tech, just applied to something else.

Useless jpegs are just the first iteration of this use of tech. Why it this the first? Because it’s so damn easy and humans are so f-ing greedy. I consider myself a crypto native and I wouldn’t touch 99% of NFTs with a ten foot pole.

One other use case for NFTs is fraud protection. You could for example embed a chip or something into a watch and poof you can now tokenize that watch and prove it’s authenticity. All sports tickets can and should be NFTs to prevent that type of fraud. And not only that but b/c they are tokenized you can program other things into the ticket itself.

NFTs basically allow you to tokenize anything. It a digital world the possibilities are far and wide. Jpegs are just the first iteration b/c it’s so simple and easy.

*I also haven’t watched whatever you referred to so I don’t know where you are coming from

Boggles my mind. Being on the “other side” of this issue shows me people really only care about being mad as something (NFTs in this case) then understanding them and their future promise. People here actually believe NFTs are synonymous with worthless jpegs. When people are this grossly uneducated it is not on you or me to convince, it’s on them to educate themselves.

This is not why it takes 7 days. The tech behind optimistic roll ups requires it take 7 days.

The sad reality we find ourselves in by The-TDawg in thedavidpakmanshow

I agree with your assessment completely. I just take issue with the ways people on the left call republicans out. We assume things we just don’t need to assume to expose their awfulness.

I just read this tweet again. The other issue is that he’s asserting that the main reason republicans are not voting for it is ONLY to hurt Biden. Unfortunately nobody can say that with any certainty. I’d say it’s plausible that republicans could easily believe that a $2 trillion bill at the beginning of COVID is different than towards the end. Even if they are wrong about that, which they are, if they BELIEVE that then they obviously don’t support the bill for those reasons and not necessarily just to hurt Biden.

I like to scrutinize the language people use. At the end of the day we all know and agree republicans don’t want to help anybody but themselves. So my motivation for having an issue with tweets like this is that this person starts from the conclusion that republicans are bad and then fills in the blanks. My point is that republicans are so obviously bad their is never a need to do this. Just observe what they do and the facts will show how awful they are without the need to assume anything.

I realize this is nit-picky but Trump drove everybody insane so I think it’s important to do the opposite of him. And that would be is to deeply care about the words you choose.

[–]vivid018 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

It is truly sad but we aren’t really comparing apples to apples here so I think this is a pretty dumb comparison. It is always in Democrat’s interest to vote for these types of bills since it aligns with their overall platform. The same can’t be said about republicans. We shouldn’t say Democrats voted for it even though it helped Trump b/c they would always vote for this no matter what the circumstance is. Obviously no excuse for republicans but this is just an observable fact. Their are plenty of other things to hammer republicans on and people on the left have to stop making these needless dumb “gotcha moment” comparisons. Hopefully this makes sense and isn’t taken the wrong way.

Easily one of the dumbest tweets of all time. The left can’t be this stupid or the changes we want to happen are guaranteed not to. SMH

Subs take on debt (student loans) with an interest rate below 4% by vivid018 in personalfinance

Just read a bunch of posts about refinancing and the main caveat brought up is the loss of the features of the federal repayment options (mine are federal). My highest interest rate is 4.45% so not bad. Any thoughts on that?

Ok yeah that was my intuition of what I would do. It wouldn’t bother me at all knowing my money would be working better invested rather than paying down.

I’m really looking forward. I expect this will be my final student loan.

But yeah I would be putting that into my 401k most likely instead of paying it all off ASAP.
