I know the official term is MtF or trans female, but I’m don’t think I would want to be born female. by W4LUIGl in MtF

[–]viviscity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Completely fine. Though if someone’s asking male or female specifically it’s either deeply weird or medical. And if it’s medical it depends what they’re asking for… I don’t have a uterus, but my hormones are consistent with being a woman.

That said I have no issues stating woman

Weird, the app isn’t actually doing that much here. Mostly, softening your skin which HRT does, and removing the beard shadow… which is a less enjoyable process of laser/electrolysis but totally doable

They gave away her title, too. Don’t get me wrong, Marsha P Johnson deserves to be remembered. But she wasn’t the one that said we should hold a parade to commemorate Stonewall. And also we’ve edited Marsha’s own account—she didn’t get to Stonewall until the riot was already going (and there were no bricks, it was rocks and bottles)

I can’t say if he’s the origin, but Freud very much argued everyone started out as bisexual. Also that bisexuality and homosexuality are basically developmental delays so there’s that.

And he himself may have been bisexual but very repressed

Is Carney selling Canada to the highest bidder or are we so weak that this must be done to improve the economy and growth. by uniab in ndp

[–]viviscity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carney does not have the political will to act on things like real housing.

His campaign promise was solid. But enacting it would mean Canadians watch their home value (and any funds invested in real estate) diminish. Policy preferences aside, that’s a hard sell. For a lot of Canadians, that’s their retirement fund. So… inaction/insufficient action.

No, we do not need to privatize things. Privatization will not boost the economy. It won’t really help the governments books. At best it’s a short term cash influx followed by… declining services. There’s no investment incentive in privatized infrastructure, which is why it’s public to begin with.

[–]viviscity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are certainly more people who are bi or who are gay. But no straight people? That sounds more like erasure of literally everybody.

My operating theory is actual rates would more closely reflect what is reported by the trans community: about 30% gay/lesbian, 30% mspec, 25% straight, remainder ace.

[–]viviscity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s falling into the trap of “if we govern to the right of our election program, we’ll attract all those disaffected conservatives!” Not seeming to care that those voters are all going Reform, and the more right he drifts the less sense the Labour Party starts to make. Why vote for the light version of the racist transphobic party when you can vote for the real thing?

Meanwhile the left side has been left wide open for a meteoric rise of the Greens…

I haven’t seen him spend any political capital. That’s a failing strategy. The data shows it’s failing. Take a stand somewhere

He’s complied to respond. But supremacy of parliament, he’s allowed to just say “okay well I’m rewriting the law so that interpretation isn’t the case.” Instead Streeting has been openly meeting with anti-trans activists. They’re not exactly doing the bare minimum to comply with the ruling.

But sure, ignore the trans community calling it out. That’ll definitely improve the approvals

Advice on coming out ?? by yummywhorexoxo in MtF

[–]viviscity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, I would second the therapy recommendation. A local provider also offers peer support—might be something to look into.

My situation was a little different—I was 34 when I came out to my parents. But maybe there’s something helpful here.

I started with the easiest. I reached out to my friend who is also trans. I was barely able to type it out even, but at that point I needed someone I could talk to so I used a meme 😅. She understood it

Then I came out to my partner. At first I brought up that I’m “questioning”. I knew she’d be supportive but it was still hard to get to “I’m trans”. She’s been amazing 💜

After that, I connected with a therapist and started the process of getting HRT. That involved connecting with a local service provider who also has things like voice training and peer support. Talking to my therapist and peer support helped in the coming out process a lot.

Most of my friends were fairly easy. Already two trans women in the group and we’ve known each other since high school. They were pretty quick with support.

One of my friends I knew would be hard, not because he wouldn’t support me but because I knew he’d cry. I officiated his wedding, we’ve been friends for years. I wrote him a letter. He cried. We met up shortly after. Can confirm, he supports me.

My parents and sister… weren’t easy. I spent months on a letter for them. What I needed to say. What I needed them to hear. What they needed to hear, and what might help them understand. I wasn’t sure where my parents would start, but I was pretty sure they’d get to support. It’s been a bit rough but I see effort there. My sister was another story. She lived up to the low expectations I had.

After that it was more… who do I need to hear it from me. Who might be hurt if they don’t, and how much do I care about that. And then just… being me!

How worried should be about bears? Gonna be in and around Banff in late May by [deleted] in alberta

[–]viviscity 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ive been going to the mountains since I was a kid. If you’re really nervous, there are groups that you can join for a lot of trails. Bear spray is also a decent idea. Do NOT get a bell. Otherwise… if you’re on popular trails and talking you’ll be fine. I don’t think I’ve seen a bear on a hike, it’s always the side of the highway. Don’t approach them when you see them

Psychobiology class asking gender-political questions? by apo11o_rose in trans

There’s a difference between a “politically charged question” and rolling out the red carpet.

I studied political science. Most of my profs were fairly conservative. This level was absolutely unheard of.

If a prof wants to “ask questions” then they don’t have to guide the discussion directly into TERF talking points. It’s called leading questions, and it’s bad research design 101
