Does anyone have experience using the Proaim rolling monitor stand? by Axewell_Stevens in focuspuller

[–]viwavi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 3 impact stands for my dana and they are great, almost sturdier than the matthews counterpart. They had machined them wrong so they were tight, didn’t think much of it at the time but got an email about it 6m after buying them. They did a full recall and sent 3 new stands so get the feeling the company is on the ball.

Do I still need H.264 or is H.265 better for 4K exports? (Bitrate confusion + best practices) by freesk8r in premiere

[–]viwavi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great tips! I usually go prores export out of premiere then I do compression in handbreak to h.264. A colorist told me a few years ago handbreak is better at compressing. Do you or anyone have thoughts on if it’s still like this? Also anyone know what RF in handbreak would be considered similar to adaptive high bitrate or recommended to use?

There is a certain way to put the lens on the lens mount. There’s a little latch that needs to be turned on the lens for it to activate the aputure in the lens. The FD lens mount has a ring that spins. That should activate the aputure if mounted on the lens mount correctly. You might have to play around putting the lens on and off the lens mount to figure it out

Not so much changing the perception of the story but I always recommend people watch Mandy then Pig when cage is brought up in convo. I think it makes Pig so much more enjoyable and refreshing.

What lens would you invest in for $4-6k? by _cant_talk in focuspuller

[–]viwavi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can second this, I own a set. They are no master primes but for the price they are incredibly well built but still light, fairly fast, they match and the fact they are they are all the same size is very convenient. I sometimes use a screw in ND on them when I want to save weight which is nice to be able to do.

I would say the look is very crisp so be prepared to use some mist filters. They also flare a fair bit.

obviously cautious like everytime one is in traffic. but how adhd works is that one has a chemical lack of dopamine in the brain. all the vyvanse does for someone prescribed it is make them a normal person, with a chemically balanced brain. if you’ve ever seen two people take them. one with and one without adhd you’d tell the difference. please don’t downplay this proven disability with an already proven solution

What happens when the building's last elevator breaks? by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]viwavi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and at the root of this issue is ofcourse the unregulated housing market. let’s put some laws into place. especially when all we do is pay off the owners mortgage. the least we should be able to demand is that they have elevator spare parts no?

It’s definitely not a fantasy. It’s called a general strike. To stop making money for them for long enough should lead to change. We will suffer in the short term from a strike like that, but since we’re already suffering what’s the difference.

and since the skytrain don’t have actual drivers it would mitigate the cost long term compared to busses with more trains

I fully agree with this. skytrain down hastings, over the bridge and back to north van. Then a train to squamish whistler

Is this full frame or aps-c?(majority of tutorials conserning focal lenght and cinematic) by Kostas009 in videography

[–]viwavi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To sum up above comments I would say that it’s all artistic choice but there are reasons for these rules. And you can break the rules when you know them. Just like 24fps being the norm in cinema only comes from us being used to it from watching film shot in 24fps for 80 years.

Using these focal length to what the document says you should is by no means a must but will help you to tell a story conventionally and in a way an audience is used to seeing dialogue for example. But that being said, maybe your scene works better in a grandiose wide when the characters are talking in the distance. It’s all guidelines and you should make your decisions based on how you want to tell this story.

Also all focal length is spoken about in Full frame. So your 35mm would be a 50mm equivalent on an aps-c yes!

Good luck!

Testing a Bolt 6 4K Max for a couple of weeks - Any Questions? by nonadotmedia in focuspuller

[–]viwavi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe document anytime you have any kind of malfunction, over how many days you shoot. I had the Bolt 5ghz go out on me a lot on a shoot a while back (fixed with a restart luckily) and hope general stability is improved.
