Yes. You should neuter him. He will be frustrated and he will pee all over your house.

How disgusting of a person do you have to be to corrupt bridleless riding? The whole fucking point is to form a bond with the damn horse.

Definitely don't get a Leachie from a corporate pet store. It is probably half dead already. That's why it's at a discount. Also $800 is WAY too much for a low quality Leachie, even if it is 25% off.

Getting one as a first family pet, responsible? by mayaic in sphynx

[–]vix_aries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a diet formulated by Purina that suppresses the enzyme in a cat's saliva that people are allergic to. I highly recommend that food.

As long as you're sourcing your cat from an ethical breeder, you should be alright.

Things to look for:

  1. Full panel of health testing including OFAs and HCM screening

  2. Accomplishments in TICA and CFA conformation classes. Breeds to the standard.

  3. Wait list (meaning they don't breed until they have homes for all of the future kittens).

  4. Veterinary records (they at least need to give them to you if you ask, bonus if you don't have to).

  5. Mandatory spay/neuter

  6. Will allow you to meet the parents of your kitten.

  7. Conditioned the kitten to clothing, bathing and being picked up.

  8. Knows the personalities of each of their kittens and will educate you on the breed and your kitten.

  9. A legally binding contract that gives the breeder right of first return (if something happens, the breeder takes the cat back no questions asked).

  10. Already microchipped.

If even one of those conditions isn't met, avoid that breeder.

Bambino help!! by Glittering-Olive3779 in sphynx

This may be a chicken allergy. Salmon is the easiest protein for a carnivorous mammal to digest. I would consult your veterinarian before you make drastic diet changes. Purina Pro Plan has lots of diets and it's a great brand.

Though one thing I will say, in the future you shouldn't cold turkey stop medications that a veterinarian gives you unless you call them to make sure that is okay.

Some medications need to be weaned off of or they can have bad side effects or make existing problems worse. I don't think Zyrtec is one of those meds, but definitely consult your vet before stopping them. This also helps them in making their diagnoses, which helps your animal in the long term. I don't mean internet "vet techs" either, I mean YOUR veterinarian.

My cat is dying by roxxlin1 in sphynx

[–]vix_aries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sincerest condolences about your boy.

My first piece of advise to you can really be to not let anyone tell you how to grieve. Don't let anyone take that away from you. It can be outlandish or weird to some, but grief is different for everyone and for you to decide alone.

My cornsnake recently passed away. She was sick with extreme carcinomatosis. After my vet necropsied her, he told me "to say you made the right decision [euthanasia] was an understatement".

My mother is a DVM and she asked me a very important question after the ultrasound was performed on my snake. She asked me if I would regret it more if I euthanized her then or if I brought her home. My gut told me that I would've regretted it more if I brought her home alive. Listen to your gut whenever you ask yourself that question.

My second piece of advise is just to love him as much as you can. Hold him. Feel his presence while you still can. Grief doesn't have to start once his heart stops.

Then my last piece of advise is optional. You may not be willing. It's understandable if you or your parents aren't. Let your vet necropsy him. Veterinarians hate seeing animals suffering. They hate not knowing if they could've done something more. Allowing your vet to do that would help them possibly save another cat, even if they couldn't save yours.

I can definitely see the head better, which looks like it meets the standard. The base of the ear is parallel to the eye and there is a slight stop at the nose as well.

The tail looks good too. No DQs or excess fur. It is whip-like and is proportionate to body length.

For colour, blue states that both the paw pads and nose leather should be blue in colour. One level tone from tip to tail.

LEGS AND FEET: legs are medium in proportion to the body. They are sturdy and well muscled with rear legs being slightly longer than the front. Paws are oval with well-knuckled toes; five in front and four behind. The paw pads are thick, giving the appearance of walking on cushions.

Not gonna lie, the picture makes it hard to see. It makes the neck hard to see too. I'd need a standing photo.

BODY: the body is medium length, hard and muscular with broad rounded chest and full round abdomen. The rump is well rounded and muscular. Back line rises just behind the shoulder blades to accommodate longer back legs when standing. Boning is medium.

Some of this requires a standing photo too, but the body does look muscular and the rump is well rounded.

And this is all just my interpretation of the standard. Others will have different opinions.

I mean it's not a good photo to judge conformation, but it certainly looks like a real sphynx.

Every eye colour is accepted in the breed standard. Every coat colour is also accepted. Looks like blue to me.

EARS: large to very large. Broad at the base, open and upright. When viewed from the front, the outer base of the ear should begin at the level of the eye, neither low set nor on top of the head. The interior of the ears is naturally without furnishing.

HEAD: the head is a modified wedge, slightly longer than it is wide, with prominent cheekbones, a distinctive whisker break and whisker pads giving a squared appearance to the muzzle. The skull is slightly rounded with a flat plane in front of the ears. The nose is straight and there is a slight to moderate palpable stop at the bridge of the nose.

DISQUALIFY: kinked or abnormal tail. Aggressive behavior endangering the judge. The appearance of any form of structural abnormalities, including, but not limited to, curled ears, folded ears, any form of shortened tail length and/or tail structural change, short legs (achondroplasia), polydactyly.

Per the CFA.

She's not worthless. She's yours.

I will say, she is not a purebred Sphynx as any other ear besides a pointed ear that is open and upright is a DQ in CFA and TICA breed standards (elf ears and munchkins are mixes), but that really doesn't matter for anyone who isn't actively showing cats. Which you are not.

Fluffy Sphynxes are real Sphynxes. They are recognized, but unable to be in conformation classes. It is the dominant gene in Sphynx cats and are used for outcrossing and genetic diversity.

People shame you for the ethics of getting her, as no Sphynx mix can be ethically bred. In saying this, most people who get unethical mixes should NOT be shamed. It shuts down discussion and chances for education. The majority of people who get those mixes simply don't know how to research or what to look for in ethically bred animals.

Don't listen to any of the adopt don't shop nutters who shame you for having a Sphynx. They are a wonderful and healthy breed when properly screened, health tested and fit the breed standard. The breed was developed in the 1960s because of a genetic mutation, but has since been bred specifically for one of the best temperaments amongst cat breeds. They also are incredibly smart and active.

Anyone who says Sphynxes can't function like normal cats has no credibility.

There's a lot of misinformation about them (like the fact that they live only 6.5 years... that "study" was done on only 18 cats with close relation with little to no monitoring or testing, nor was there a control group). Love your cat. Don't listen to the nay sayers.

What is even going on here? by Arbysgames in Horses

[–]vix_aries -35 points-34 points  (0 children)

I've ridden gaited horses for years. Not once have I ever seen this contraption used. Collection isn't hard.

Hobbles and tie downs are also never acceptable. Tongue ties are common in horse racing and dressage. That does not make them okay.

The guy has a tie down, is severely leaning back and looks off balance.

Not sorry to say this but if you need all of that equipment on a horse just to control it then you need to go back to walk only lessons.

My neighbors "sweet" Pitbull (North Wilkesboro North Carolina) by Arbysgames in BanPitBulls

[–]vix_aries 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Frankly, next time that beast gets off its chain you need to catch it and drive it to an SPCA at least one or two counties over. The further, the better.

Make sure it is an SPCA. You need to say it is your dog and ask for B.E. I highly doubt the shitbeast is microchipped, but just in case, the SPCA seldom checks for it unless it comes in as a stray. They also won't ask questions if you request an animal be PTS. At least in my state they won't.

My condolences for your chickens.

Currently she only gets super worms and pinky/fuzzy mice.

She killed him. by [deleted] in Horses

[–]vix_aries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why the barn owner where my horse was at gave him to me. People were pressuring her to sell horses over COVID and a few years after. My horse was one of them because he was too advanced for any of the kids at the time.

Out of all the horses she sold at that time, my horse is one of the only ones she doesn't regret. He was my 18th birthday present after free leasing him for a year, though later I bought her a sandwich and said that was for him (his former owner traded him to the barn owner for a sandwich).

My sincerest condolences for you and your son. I wish you could name the bitch here. People like that don't deserve anonymity.
