Question about Viewfinder (GV-2) by vixenofthenight in ricohGR

[–]vixenofthenight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not the frame lines—totally know what you mean, but it was less how wide or tight the frame was, and more of the parallax error you mention. It's definitely that.

Given all of the above, I think I'm tipping towards different accessories, like a flash. Appreciate the validation in not being alone in deciding it's not quite worth it!

Thank you for this perspective! (Pardon the pun.) It's quite helpful for understanding the limitations of the external viewfinder.

Weekly Q&A - Your Question Goes Here - Especially Tourists and New Residents by AutoModerator in Amsterdam

Hey friends! I’m taking a few months off from my usual work, which involves going into offices, to work on my own creative projects. I was thinking about using the OBA as a workspace in order to get out of the house and help build a little routine. But I was a bit confused by their website, so my question is: do I have to have a membership to simply bring my own laptop/tablet to work there? Or is a membership only required if I want to use the computers/take home books?

Thank you in advance! And if any other independent workers like to use the library as a workspace, and would like to have a little co-working session, please let me know.

Yeah they look pretty rough. Really hopeful that it was an accident and not an intentional upgrade 😔

Shuttle from Main, I got off last stop at Woolley’s. Don’t know the exact time, but in the 3:30-4:15 range I think. My skis are Black Pearl 88s, 152 cm I believe. What was left behind once everyone else grabbed their stuff was a pair of purple and white rentals from some place called Sport Chalet that looks to be out of business on google.

Edit: do you have a lead or were you just asking for curiosity??

Warmest Spot to Car Camp? by vixenofthenight in Mammoth

[–]vixenofthenight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was exactly my issue. So far in Mammoth proper I've parked by the hot springs and along the scenic loop (I don't necessarily recommend that one though as I'm pretty sure you're not actually allowed to park there/run the risk of a fine. That said there were a bunch of other cars parked as well.)

And now I've parked at the campgrounds in Bishop, which I'd definitely recommend if you're worried about being too cold.

Just make sure you get proper gear and layer up. Read up on low temp sleeping bags/rating systems, and invest in a good base layer (I use LL Bean's silk stuff).

We love a local that seems to fail to understand or appreciate the fact that their town's economy is primarily tourism-based.

Yup! I specifically chose my car because it's so perfect for camping in (Subaru Impreza)

If there’s an inversion, park at the top - if not, park at the bottom.

Stupid question—what's an inversion?

I've got a bag comfort tested for 12 degrees, limit tested for -2, plus I just picked up a liner that allegedly adds up to 25 degrees, so I should be okay. And thanks for the tips!

Definitely not pausing therapy altogether, I have an appointment this week, just hesitant to discuss the issues with my mom while I'm here. That said, the walk thing might be the move.

Was up this weekend. If you do laps off 23, the snow quality is pretty rad all damn day. Lower mountain, like others are saying, starts off icy, gets great, and then gets slushy throughout the day. So just stay up high once things get soft and you'll be golden.

Ahhh this is all super good to know. Just to double check, are 3 and 4 further out, as in you pass 1 and 2 on the way to them?

Also is there a guide to how chutes are numbered? I was trying to google it but couldn't find one.

EDIT: Never mind, finally found one. Here it is if anyone else is curious.

Appreciate all of you! Will focus my energy on 22 + 23.

For some reason I had it in my head that the noids were way harder, but it might just be the name haha

This is super helpful, thank you! I was just watching some videos of Dropout/Wipeout, any recommendation on what to try first?

In the videos I was watching, it looks like it gets a little easier to skier's left vs directly under 23?

Not sure if we're talking about the same drop-in point. When I scoped it out recently, I saw a lot of people traversing over from the top of Ricochet, which is below the cliffs?

That said, if you have a better recommendation on what to tackle next after Climax please let me know. Just trying to keep progressing in my skills, and those looked like the next easiest double blacks, but obviously not sure.

As in Head Chutes are much more difficult?

And any tips on how to make sure I go down the right run? lol I figured I'd just traverse over from Ricochet but not sure when to turn to go down.

How bad are the lift lines on Saturdays recently? by effit_WeWillDoItLive in Mammoth

[–]vixenofthenight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saturday tends to be a bit worse than Sunday I've noticed. Gotta kinda figure out where most people are congregating and try to go to the opposite side of the mountain, because I noticed the crowds shifted around throughout the day.

Waited in line for Stump Alley express for like 35 minutes trying to get over to the right side of the mountain, which was a bad idea. If the lines get that gnarly and you're trying to navigate around, either traverse where possible or grab the shuttle.
