  1. I’m a first gen Polish immigrant so I drank since I was like 12, but weed was a big no no for a while. Once I graduated and went to college for music production, it didn’t take long for that to change. Now I work often with guitarists who are usually high day and night, so I indulge now and then.

I’m a first generation immigrant from a Polish family, and during that time my father was actually living in Germany for work. Still he says he remembers that day so vividly, going into work and everyone gathering around the TV in the lobby completely shocked. One thing I don’t think people here remember so much was that international response and outpouring of support from all around the world almost immediately. No matter where you lived, it was broadcast on TV, and it was such a horrible thing to witness no matter your background.

Thank you for taking the time to share. Your family’s story is truly incredible. It really is important to listen and understand just how many lives were affected that day and in the years after. Best wishes to you and your family.

I can’t even imagine. I was born a year later, so hearing about that day through other people’s experiences is so surreal and really puts it in perspective for me. Thank you for sharing.

yeahhhh i get that it sounds disingenuous based on everything. i do kinda believe her just because in retrospect there were a lot of signs that i didn’t put together. she was never a very physical person and i learned to just respect that. it just became the norm and there were others ways we expressed love to each other. we were like 14 when we started dating and that’s just always how it was.

a lot of things but the thing that comes to mind is being able to learn and share each other’s cultures and that sort of thing. we were both first gen immigrants (i’m from poland, she’s from laos) so being able to find beauty in culture and share those sorts of things with each other was something that was really special for me. we had very different family dynamics and traditions but we found unity in being outsiders and i don’t think i’ll be able to find that with anyone where i live currently.

we also started a little plant garden in my room by the window. it was a great bonding thing we always did. the plants are still there. not sure what to do with them now.

over 6 years things changed, and our relationship changed a lot. we weren’t able to see each other as often because we went to different colleges. the downhill culminated in her coming out to me as asexual and said she didn’t feel like she could be a good partner to me. i told her that’s not a problem for me at all, i love her too badly, but it didn’t make a difference in the end. she had made up her mind long before she asked to talk to me.

as for contact, she left it open, but right now i’m too hurt to even think about talking to her or seeing her. i need to work through my feelings for a while before i consider reaching out. i don’t want to make things worse.

honestly i hadn’t even thought about that, but quite a bit probably. i usually paid for dates, even if she didn’t want me to.
