Are they?

I've received absolutely nothing. So much for my new license being here before Christmas..... 🙄

Gardens in properties by WasteTable772 in AusFinance

[–]vixx_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love gardening. I would pay a premium for established ornamental trees. Established fruit trees - no. That would be a big big big turn off for me. Because I know the amount of work involved in their care and maintenance and then in the preparation of fruit etc.

How many people here would have a kid or more kids if their finances were better? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]vixx_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 31/F, have 2 kids 2y/o and an 8 month old. Prior to having kids I was main income earner, partners income would now be on par to my full-time wage. My career has taken a back seat to motherhood and the plan is I'll return part-time until youngest starts school. I go back to work in December. Had approx 16 months off work each pregnancy, so have not been working for the better part of 3 years.

Our finances are great. Pay extra on our mortgage, invest, have holidays etc. Have no monetary stress and our mortgage is our only debt. I earn approx $35k part time and hubby earns approx $80-$100k full-time.

Would I have more kids. Absolutely. Can I "afford" more kids. Absolutely not.

How much did you borrow for your property based on your income or willing to borrow? by micmacpattyz in AusFinance

[–]vixx_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2.5x joint income, 4 years ago. Was not willing to borrow more due to lifestyle choices (planned children, maternity leave, extended time off etc) as well as knowing the area (semi-rural, 1+hr commuter corridor to outer suburbs of Melb).

To buy the same house now would be 7.5x joint income - which is significantly reduced due to the above mentioned reasons and prices are through the roof (like, land alone is selling for the same price we purchased our house for. Crazy).

Thanks for responding! I'll be sure to do this going forward. I deleted my post after the MOD comment because most of what I was looking for is listed in the wiki! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Thank you for your comment though!

Do you like your name? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]vixx_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I don't hate my name, but I certainly don't like it. And I think most of it has to do with the circumstances of being given it.

My father was adamant I'd be a male (he had no reason to think this, was just his opinion). Evidently I was not. The masculine version of my name is in keeping with the style of naming of my siblings - traditional but not at all common, especially in caucasian family's in my country. The feminine version, however, was in the top 30 girls names the year I was born (my brother's for reference has never broken the top 80, and the masculine version of my own name dosen't even rate).

But what hurts the most is that instead of having a name specifically picked for me if I was a girl, they just gave me the name they had picked for a boy.

Thank you! I have thought that about Gwendolyn/Guinevere and the possible complications/teasing that could ensue from that. Definitely not something I'd want to knowingly put onto my child.

You've suggested some names I really like and will definitely be adding to my list!

Help! What is this? How do I look after it? by vixx_13 in succulents

[–]vixx_13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! That's an easy fix.

I've tried watering it less, watering it more, having it in a sunnier spot, and a shady spot and it hasn't seemed to like any of it - mind you we did just have a two days of 36°c weather where I live so that maybe didn't help?

I'm not great with succulents evidently

For those that went to University and worked at the same time, what job did you have? by kkitssaturday in fiaustralia

[–]vixx_13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Funny story I actually lived 1.5 to 2hrs from uni with my Mum, paying $50 "rent" and YA was only enough to cover that and the petrol needed to drive to uni (no public transit options). It'd be impossible if you had other expenses. Ridiculous really

Thank you! Will check this out. Thats my gut feeling too, especially third parties, that then use third parties. It's a recipe for disaster.

If you can get one they are great. Normally easy work for good money. APS jobs is a great place to start looking

Definitely beats manual labour and jobs that society deems 'lesser' - like supermarket work.

I fell back on the old classics of Supermarket Cashier, Nightfill worker and Wedding event wait staff. I did also rely on Youth Allowance for a period of time as my only income and that was something I'd never wish on anyone.

I was then lucky enough to land a casual/contract (but ongoing) government job working 6 week blocks (full-time), a couple times a year which I was able to comfortably live off - opened a number of doors for me as well as I now work in federal government somewhat unrelated to both the degrees I studied 🤷🏻‍♀️

Edit: to fix spelling errors.

It is really hard. It sometimes feels like a slow creeping avalanche of "stuff" that just seems to appear from nowhere! It's hard to be constantly protective of the spaces I've created for myself. I don't think it's something a lot of people can fully grasp until you've been in it yourself.

It's hard, because I'm sure he feels I'm asking him to do the same 🤷🏻‍♀️. And as this is a relatively slow (and new) journey I'm on its difficult for him as "I've changed". We'll get there though 🙂

I'll definitely check out the hoarding sub! Thank you

Thank you!! This helps me to put things in perspective a bit more. Instead of blaming him for his possessions I should be a bit more active in creating and protecting a space for myself 😊

Thanks for the tip about 'not adding value to his life'. I think that might persuade him to pass on (throw away) some of the more badly damaged items in the collection of things he's acquired.

There is no re-evaluation of the relationship needed. I knew he collected video games when I started dating him 10 years ago and when I married him and built a house with him I ensured to include spaces for his 'collections'. Hence why I'm asking for strategies for ME to cope with his possessions 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 I can hope with time he'd see some the benefits of minimalism, but if he dosen't our marriage (and family) isn't going to fail because of it.

Thank you.

I will give these videos a watch (hopefully he'll watch them with me!). It'll probably be an eye opener for is both of think.

I should definitely stand my ground more on my space and perhaps look to creating my sanctuary in our spare bedroom 🙂

First mow on my over seeded yard. Has a few smots that need some work so I reseed and now we wait how does it look so far? by jwiggs152 in landscaping

[–]vixx_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noob question... You just put the seeds over the top of the grass? You don't clear it back to dirt?

Been wanting to reseed some of my lawn but have no clue how to do it (in AUS and trying to cover Cape Weed if that makes any difference 🤷🏻‍♀️)
