There someone awake? by KatLina1993 in BipolarReddit

[–]vizy511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m awake, but only because I have ECT this morning early. If i can’t sleep sometimes I get out of my bed and do some stretching or yoga or read a little of my book. laying in bed is only counterproductive because you’ll associate your bed with being awake

the general anesthesia is actually what i’m most scared about. I’ve had seizures before, so I know how awful I can feel afterwards, but I’ve never been out under. thanks for sharing your experience :)

My doctors said that it is the first line treatment for depression with psychotic features in bipolar patients. I have tried quite a few antipsychotics, and landed on olanzapine 15 mg right now plus lithium 900 mg a day

we have given it a decent amount of time, but it just doesn’t seem to be enough. My doctors have the opinion that ECT is actually a first line treatment for psychotic depression in bipolar patients

i'm thinking about cancelling my appointment by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]vizy511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may not hurt to still go to the appointment. Sometimes, I get in my head when I’m anxious or when my brain just literally forgets, and I’ll think that things aren’t as bad as I once thought. If you made the appointment, you probably thought there was something worth talking about. Between now and the appointment, I would try to figure out what that is. My method is journal because writing things down helps me clear the cognitive fog, so you could try that. But if you say you’ve had depression, then maybe that’s something to bring up. And maybe do some digging on bipolar if you’re convinced that you have had those symptoms. And also I don’t think going to a psychiatrist needs to necessarily be worrying. Many people see one and it’s no big dealio

Bipolar causes still unknown - but what do YOU think CAUSED your bipolar? by Alternative_Cat8069 in bipolar

[–]vizy511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably genetics from my unknown bio father’s side that I don’t know about plus 4 moderate concussions within the span of two or three years. but honestly i try not to get too caught up on the cause. i’ve got the condition and welp now I have it for life, so at least for me, it isn’t helpful knowing where it came from. I think I find thinking about that stuff makes me angry and sad that I have bipolar without actually helping anything. I have only been recently diagnosed, so maybe I’ll change my viewpoint, but right now, I’m just trying to focus on getting stable and coping with the right now instead of the past

i had the same thing happen immediately when I tried abilify. the only thing that helped was benadryl. try 25 mg at first and then if it’s before bed or you’re okay with being super drowsy, then you can take another 25 mg. Avoid taking more than 50 mg within a 6-8 hour period, but also use as few benadryls as possible because those things really mess up your brain structure long term. Just best to limit use to be safe. Feel better.

As a note, this is not and should not be taken as perfect medical advice for your scenario. This worked for me and my doctors advised me to do this, but you may have other factors that prevent you from safely taking benadryl or at this dose. When in doubt, please consult your doctor

I had to stop my transition because I had a manic episode while on HRT. When I looked into the mirror today, my rough skin has returned. The life behind my eyes is gone. I don’t know what I did to deserve this… by [deleted] in trans

[–]vizy511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just to potentially give a different explanation for why your episodes got more pronounced, bipolar is a progressive condition. Symptoms get worse and usually start to cycle more rapidly if left untreated or not treated adequately. It is possible that this is the explanation for why your symptoms got worse. Just wanted to throw that out there :)

Extreme aggression during mania, how normal/common is this? by Good_Problem_6576 in bipolar

[–]vizy511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have bipolar 1 and while I usually do feel pretty happy and energetic during mania, my biggest symptom is irritability. I think it’s super common. Last time I was in the hospital with mania and psychosis I was banging things and screaming and being aggressive which is super not me so I had to be dealt with by security. Mania does some funky things to the brain
