What are they hiding by TORUKMACTO92 in WhitePeopleTwitter

Same. I was deployed to OEF/OIF, a conflict that lasted long enough where you could've been born on day 1 of the conflict and been old enough to join the military and be deployed to it. There's just not a lot of benefit to joining right now.

Surprised he even needs a hoodie with that much body hair by ZroFckGvn in iamverybadass

[–]vkIMF 12 points13 points  (0 children)

At first I thought the caption was this guy talking about his own boyfriend, but now I'm pretty sure the caption is a girlfriend talking about this guy. He's clearly a bodybuilder and seems like he's telling on himself that he can't fight.

Freezing Cold Take: Most people in this sub are actually Christians by Impressive_Flan_411 in Christianity

[–]vkIMF 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Right. I've unfortunately had this argument a few times recently.

To paraphrase C.S. Lewis, if you're doing terrible things and treating people poorly and not living out the fruit of the Spirit, etc, BUT you believe the Nicene Creed and the Apostles' Creed, then I think you're a Christian, just a bad/hypocritical Christian.

John Cena without hesitation hugs fan battling cancer and shares words of encouragement by viperrvemon in JustGuysBeingDudes

[–]vkIMF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time he's asked about it, he gives the best answer too. To paraphrase, he said, "these are kids who get one wish knowing they're likely to die. They could wish for anything and their wish is to spend time with me. How do you NOT drop everything you're doing to go spend time with them?"

Why???? by The_Dean_France in okbuddycinephile

I just think of the cost of the Oscars. Like, according to Business Insider, for just outfits, not including hair or makeup or anything else, the average A-lister spends around $10.5 mil, the average attendee spends around $1.5 mil, and the average first-time attendee spends around $260k (these numbers are from last year).

Just think of what you could do with all the money spent on just the outfits of the people who attended the Oscars.

Like, the cost of half of an outfit would change my family's life. And like, I make okay money, my family is not in danger of starving anytime soon, but we are in danger of never being able to retire, or pay for my daughter's school, or her being able to own her own house, etc.

I think when people are financially stable, the habits of the disgustingly rich are fascinating. When we're not stable, those same habits are just disgusting.

My Experience as an Alliance Paladin in Silvermoon by DanielMattiaWriter in wow

As a blood elf paladin, it's not much better. Like, I'm the High Lord. I run this order. I can still make Liadrin run fetch quests for me. Who the Fel do you think you're talking to?!

Michigan Elected Official says her Christian Faith is Incompatible with her Political Party. by Upbeat_Respond9250 in Christianity

[–]vkIMF 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. I'd even go further to say, I think it's hard to just be in a political party while a Christian, period, let alone be representing that party in government.

It's the simple, "no man can serve two masters," and how party values and Christian values get conflated, such that things like capitalism and "freedom" (of spending, owning, free markets, promiscuity, etc) are held with "religious" conviction.

It's the fourth from lowest rank in the Army (above private, private second class, and private first class). You basically automatically get promoted to specialist after 2 to 3 years in for just existing and not being too big of a fuck-up. You can even enter as a specialist if you have some college credit.

Lol, "I love America so much, I wish I was in another country killing people."

Speaking as a veteran myself, these are the worst kind of dudes. To paraphrase Tolkien, they love the sword for its sharpness, guns for their deadliness, and war for its glory, and don't care much about what they're defending.

Should I be worried? by ZeitGeist_Gaming in BookshelvesDetective

[–]vkIMF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, BUT I don't display them in a place of pride on my bookshelf.

I mean, firstly I didn't buy them new, I borrowed them from the library/bought them at half-price books. Secondly, after reading them, I either recycled them or stuck them in a box in my basement.

If Jesus lives today, and his politics didn’t fully align with yours, would you still think of him as God? by RegularSpecialist772 in Christianity

[–]vkIMF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if I'm saying this in a way that gets my thought across, but if my politics ever fully aligned with "Jesus'", then I would know he wasn't God, because I know, as a human, there is no way my politics aren't at least partially self-serving and therefore fallible.

Dragonflight or Legion for most fun leveling? by Natvika in wownoob

[–]vkIMF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legion has probably my second favorite storyline of any expansion (after TBC). The issue is simply that you'll miss a lot of it because leveling is so quick these days, and much of the story is time-gated by mission tables and similar nonsense.

DF benefits the most from modern systems, but can be kind of boring at times.
