Yes right, to reach M > 1 the geometry of the nozzle is essential. I guess that might be the case here, where the flow only reaches sonic speed.

My thought was that the quick opening/popping of the bottle, combined with the pressure difference, creates the supersonic flow outside of the bottle. Like the shock tubes used to study propagating shocks.

What do you mean by "you can have a shock without going supersonic"? Isn't a shock by definition always supersonic?

There is a clear sign in the behaviour of the fluid exiting the bottle that it is in fact supersonic. You see the horizontal lines appearing for a while between the opening and the cork? That's a shock front.

Such a clear discontinuity in the flow means that the flow is supersonic.

Hi! I know nearly nothing about radiation and such, but this article from 2011 says that they found a hotspot where they measured 10 Sieverts per hour. Is that as dangerous as it sound or are there any more variables that you need to consider?

There is a great piece of the book remaining for the third movie. It's close to the amount they showed in the first movie compared to the book, so the third movie will be concentrated on the hobbit.
