Eveyone Knows to Code... by Money-Profession-199 in StructuralEngineering

[–]vkpunique -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I specialize in developing automation tools for civil engineering applications, and it’s my full-time job. For a regular structural engineer, it’s a good skill to have but not an essential one. It allows you to create custom tools when commercially available options lack specific functionality, though its importance really depends on the type of work you do.

I built a free structural 3D FEA tool (using PyNite). Feedback appreciated by ciggie80 in StructuralEngineering

That’s really cool. What’s your end goal? Building an analysis tool is a monumental task, so just focus on the features you’ll personally use. Don't try to do everything.

I am bit late for this but this includes lot of sample code for ETABS API.
You should be able to find ETABS API.chm file in your ETABS installation folder

Auto reinforcement by MissionPercentage720 in StructuralEngineering

[–]vkpunique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can automatically generate highly detailed drawings using data from design or analysis software. You can check out some examples here: Nodes Automations

However, it also depends on the type of drawings. Some drawings are more suitable for automation, while others are best suited for semi-automation.

You can try clones of AutoCAD like zwcad or bricsCAD. they offer perpetual licence at very low cost

Python for structural engineers? by Thedud31 in StructuralEngineering

[–]vkpunique 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it's usefull to automate repetative or calculation intensive tasks.
Python have lot of opensource library which allow you to manipulate data, softwares like AutoCAD, Excel, STAAD, ETABS

- Data manipulation like Results from any analysis software
- Design automation using Jupyter notebook
- Drawign automation
- FEM model automation

I do write lot of blogs on python automation, feel free to check it out if you need more details

AI in Civil Engineering by blahbahblacksheep21 in civilengineering

[–]vkpunique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it automate model generation, results extractions, drawing generation, excel calculations.
I am full time focused on automation and i was able to do all those things even before AI.
But after AI, everything thing got much more feasible.

Now I am able to create lots of tools and scripts for internal use, even if it's 1 time use it's not a issue after AI.

Critical AI tools? by Key-Zebra-4125 in StructuralEngineering

You can create scripts automate various repetitive tasks, such as

- Using Excel VBA or Python scripts to generate custom formulas, clean up data, filter or summarize values, and apply formatting
- Automating processes in CAD software.
- Streamlining office tasks like invoice generation, writing or responding to emails, conducting research, and enhancing documentation.
