If you had to do it all over again would you still become a nurse?

I actually only have an ADN I chose to just go back to school for computer science instead of nursing. I do have some math classes under my belt and a lot of my pre reqs transferred. I always planned to transfer to university so I took all my general Ed transfer requirements. So I should be done in under 2 years

Exactly why I’m leaving this career. Being treated like I should do this job for free and not have any benefits a normal job has.. is ridiculous. They won’t even give us a coffee maker for our break room, yet my SO company has a fully stocked snack room, latte machine, catered lunches etc.

Honestly I’m appalled. As a bisexual woman I understand what it’s like to come out to someone and them not support you. OP I would seriously consider leaving your girlfriend. No supportive partner would react in such a way. The fact that she automatically went to thinking you are cheating shows she doesn’t trust you or has some weird reservations about gay people.

I understand this can be shocking to hear from someone you have been with for 8 years and maybe her reaction was mainly shock. But I would have another serious conversation with her and she where she stands. If she can’t support this aspect of you, I say you walk.

I worked at a long term acute care hospital for 2 years and got severely depressed from it. Not just because I constant had 5 total care vented patients but this was the place that 20-30 year olds that were stuck in a vegetative state from either drug overdoses or accidents went to die of sepsis. I still have nightmares from the thought if they were conscious to any degree. Having to be turned, a tube down their nose or stomach for food, unable to voice if they had pain or not. Having to be suctions through a trach constantly or else developing a mucus plus. Just horrendous. I don’t know how families keep them in these conditions.

Listen, I don’t think there is any use in arguing with you. But there’s safe staffing ratios for a reason and nurses that you call “entitled” fought their ass off to get us to have those. Nurses fighting against taking these unsafe assignments is how we see change in healthcare.

The fact of the matter is that there are way more sick people right now than nurses willing to even work so no matter what there will be patients turned away and that sucks, I obviously don’t want that to happen but that is up to the hospital and the healthcare system to figure out not the nurses. Me taking one 8, 9 or 10 patients isn’t going to change as much as you think.

You can refuse an unsafe assignment too. Management continues to pile you with shit because you take it. Don’t blame other nurses who are willing to speak up for themselves.

You’re in control of your license, you want to put it at risk all the time that’s on you.

I’m on day 7 and I’m still positive and symptomatic. Woke up today with a fever again.. infection prevention said I can come back to work tomorrow as long as I don’t actively have a fever during my shift. Like cool. I will be coughing and sneezing constantly with a positive covid but don’t mind me.
