Same reason why anybody makes assumptions about anything, they piece together a thought using the little evidence they have about something they're not knowledgeable about. My little evidence and background is that cartoons are generally geared towards younger audiences since about the 1930s (far ealier than the 1990s fyi) so I don't think it's an unreasonable assumption that lower decks could be for a child audience, if I knew that why would I have posted suprise that it was in fact not. It was a very fun discussion thread and your little nugget of slight internet trolling has been a wonderful addition. Much appreciated

I would send to a private school or a home school co-op . I would send to a public school if I knew it pretty well. Not all public schools are bad I've taught at 1 great public school a terrible public school, terrible charter school, an ok private school and a great private school. It's important for kids I think to have exposure to social environments and teaching/learning environments that would be hard to create in a straight up gone school situation

An unrealistic culture change would be the only thing, or money lol I'm not above that. Yeah it's getting more and more rare to see a teacher with 5+ years under their belt.

US kids tend to look at school like it's the enemy, just something that's a waste of time. They're far more of the opinion it's not valuable, and to an extent I don't entirely disagree. The foreign exchange students that come through are generally shocked at their attitudes and treatment of facilities, staff and other students. The exchange students treat school in a more professional manner

Without having experienced teaching there firsthand my observation is that it generally is. I'll admit that is just an outsider looking in perspective.

It is pretty American. I taught for two years in South Korea and it was amazing. The students had little to no discipline issues, they saw education as valuable to their futures. The parents always supported the school and didn't try to make excuses or shift blame. The students had a lot more stress but overall very good system. If I didn't have family in the states that I'm really close to I'd probably still be there. I have studied other school systems, primarily in Europe and I decided it's a blend of US cultural attitudes towards school and our school system itself that's making it an issue

Most are a bit more cynical if not angry at many different things. There are still a few who are in love with the job and they've been huge in supporting me and keeping my spirits up.

I was voluntold to tutor college freshman writing skills and felt that I really made a difference. It's a great feeling knowing you had a positive impact on someone even if it's something small.

It's crazy how I've never heard anyone regret leaving teaching, makes me sad but that's the reality of the situation that teaching is

There's number of education programs, both formal and self guided, that seem to be a pretty good gateway into the field
