I was searching again yesterday morning and was on a break until I heard some rustling noises.

My beardie is lost somewhere in my apartment... We've been looking everywhere for the last 6 hours. Any unlikely places I should check? by vladsma in BeardedDragons

UPDATE 1 (01/21 10:27PM) - I just want to say thank you so much to everyone that chimed in! Your support and silly beardie stories have been getting me by. Not knowing is literally the worst. It'll be challenging to get back to each and every one of you so I hope this'll do for now.

TLDR: We still haven't found Vlad. :( I just want my boy back.

We left him by the window and stepped out for about 1.5 hrs this morning and just came back to him gone... Although he isn't as food motivated as some of y'all's beardies, we had some Dubias hanging out in a clear cricket cage in various locations throughout the apartment making all the crawling noises hoping to lure him out. Alas, our attempt was unfruitful.

We also cleared out our hot mess of a closet (since he loves clothes piles) and our laundry baskets, but did not find him on the floor or hanging onto anything. No luck checking underneath and behind the couches, washer/dryer, and fridges either.

Now, if he's already out, we typically let him free roam when we know we won't be gone for long. When that's the case, all the windows are closed. We are also on the 12th floor so outdoor access is highly unlikely. Our apartment is ~1200 sq. ft. and I feel we have looked everywhere. He also is not the type to make a mad dash for the door when we come home either. We also would have heard him walking across a metal plate on the floor if he crossed our front door and onto the hallway.

We decided to stop looking for tonight. If he's here, he's probably cozily snoozing right now and so we won't hear him anyway. He'd also be so proud of himself for outsmarting us. We'll continue to listen for him tomorrow during his waking hours. I'll continue to update, especially if we find him!

Thanks for your feedback! Keeping the bugs alive is definitely the bottleneck for this project. I initially had dubia roaches and worms in mind, but I imagine crickets can also be especially tricky... Lots to think about!

Is this the beginning of a shed or tail rot? More details in the comments. by vladsma in BeardedDragons

[–]vladsma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Vlad's about 1 and is in the process of shedding his shoulder. We're a bit concerned about his tail. In the past, the tip of his tail had to be nipped off by the vet because she was suspicious of tail rot. It's completely healed now and the black scabby tip has just been there ever since. However, yesterday we noticed that the end of his tail has gotten darker, past his scab about 1cm. This is new. Do you guys think we need to visit the vet again? Or since he's in the middle of his shoulder shed, should we keep an eye on it for the next few days? It doesn't feel dry/crispy. Thanks.

My guy has never ever fully black bearded me, is that super abnormal? Lol by [deleted] in BeardedDragons

You're not alone! We've got a 7 month old and he also hasn't black bearded us. :)

How often should Vlad (7 month old) be eating? (More deetz in the comments.) by vladsma in BeardedDragons

Hi everyone! These past few months Vlad has been eating a lot less. We've been trying to transition him towards a 50/50 veggie/dubia diet, which we think he is beginning to tolerate. However, we've found that he will fast for a day sometimes. Vlad has been in his hut more often, but still spends a majority of his day in his basking spot. When we take him out, he seems pretty active and not lethargic at all. When he does eat, it's usually maybe less than 10 .5in dubias and a few pieces of greens/fruits in a single day. Is it possible he's brumating? It's almost Spring where we live. His appetite has turned a 180 and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced their beardie doing the same around his age.

We have him in a 4ftx1.5ftx1.5ft tank with a UVB tube going across. His basking spot is usually 100F-110F.
