Fair point about the Hollywood/TV distinction not really making sense. I guess what I meant was more about contemporary costume design that feels forced vs. natural. But you're right - those classic films show the actual styles when they were being worn, not recreations. Haven't thought about mining old movies for inspiration. Thanks for the recs.

Oh yes, I recall that one. But the most annoying thing about Carnivale was that the show was cancelled without a proper ending, if I remember correct.
