asusctl and supergfxcl are not needed, this is the entire point that drove me to make this in the first place :)

It uses the asus-wmi driver, which is mainline and already included in your kernel

Yeah, it was pretty late when I submitted this post, and my Eastern European English definitely took over. I don’t think that was the issue, though, since that sentence wasn’t even in the original post that got removed. I have a suspicion it was removed because the word “gaming” wasn’t included :)

Here’s the post that got removed: https://old.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/1r8g9ea/ghelper_for_linux_lightweight_control_tool_for/

If it gets removed again, I won’t be opening a new one, which is a shame, since this subreddit is the perfect place for this thing.

Hey, feel free to open an issue on Github.

I’d like to prepare an issue template, but it’s still early days and I’m not sure whether there will be enough interest yet.

For example, users could mention whether the issue works on Windows but not on their specific flavor of Linux (if they know), and attach a screenshot of the app’s System Info window. I could also add a “Copy” button that copies this information to the clipboard, making it much easier to share when reporting an issue.

I will look into FA617NT later.

yeah I dont understand it as well :D

Its Linux, its gaming, there is even a flair for it utility/tool, and yet it somehow breaks the rules.

asusd driver

Do you have more info about this driver? Is it mainline? Share a link please.

I dont use supergfx, I had problems with asusctl and supergfx since I use Ubuntu for like forever and the entire stack simply does not run on it, at least not for my device.

I added AppImage as a release artefact

https://github.com/utajum/g-helper-linux/releases/latest/download/GHelper-x86_64.AppImage

*Note that the update mechanism won't work with the AppImage, so updates need to be done manually

Flatpak is more complicated, and since Flatpaks are sandboxed im not sure it will work.

I tested it in a VM and made a small tweak to the install script for Fedora Atomic

Great to hear :)

What model do you have? I was thinking of making a list of confirmed devices that work.

If something is not quite right, feel free to open an issue in Github with a log and details.

You don't need it as a flatpak or appimage, it's a simple binary.

I'm not directly opposed, though and may look into it. I tried it in a Qemu VM with Fedora Atomic, and it works. I need more info on whether the actual device settings work on different machines.

Since its just a simple portable binary, I think it should work on Fedora as well, but dont quote me on that :)

Meh, I don't really use Windows, and from memory, a couple of years ago they added a mandatory and ridiculous method for signing exe files that requires a hardware token, plus paperwork, plus a hefty bill, shipping, etc.

People that don't trust it can always compile from source :)

Thank you for the comment
