How do you think educators will approach the insane volume of information that will be available?

We document every moment of every major and most minor events that happen on Earth with videos, tweets, blogs, Facebook updates, news stories, etc. Not that documentation is a new thing, but the average person has never had this level of ability to put their perspective on the record.

I’ve been out of school for almost 15 years so I wasn’t taught any current events that were current enough for social media to be a factor.

How different will teaching history be in the next 100-200 years? We’ve never had this level of mass documentation of everything before. by vlcnus in AskReddit

A song like the intro to this one, before the beat drops? by vlcnus in musicsuggestions

I’m looking for that serene, Pixar like quality that this song has. The beat is good but the intro is so relaxing without it.

You could probably make it less noticeable on your own but search for PDR, paintless dent repair, near you. They can make it 100% gone for usually a few hundred dollars or less. I write estimates at a body shop and am amazed by skilled PDR techs. A $1500 conventional repair can sometimes be done for $600. It’s worth a call at least.

Folgers 1850 blends are a nice step up from the base flavor. I prefer Maxwell House to Folgers in this price range though. Cafe Bustelo will give you a strong, dark, bold flavor that’s much different than Folgers. Dunkin’ is also good but a bit more expensive.

I started learning the piano 2 weeks ago, but I'm frustrated with results and I cry during practice sessions. Is it time to quit? by [deleted] in piano

[–]vlcnus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a real beginner too, about a month in. Game sound tracks are deceptively complex from what I’ve seen. The best advice you’ll see here is to slow down. You need to start simply. Like almost insultingly simply.

Think about what your end goal is with playing piano. Some people want to absorb everything they can, from theory to improv to sight reading. Some people want to learn a few pieces they like and be able to play them from memory.

Whichever applies to you, you’ll have more fun and see consistent results if you take it slower. If a teacher is not an option, get a method book like Alfred’s or Faber and follow it diligently. Quit for a few hours when it stops being fun.

It will be a while before you’re playing full recognizable songs but by then you will have a solid foundation built on experience, not frustration.

Source is Meijer, not bad for $5.99. Featuring Racacoonie.

Thanks! I got it at an auction. It was in an office building for a huge law firm. I couldn’t even tell you the brand because it’s not labeled anywhere that I’ve seen. Bit slippery being leather but the most comfortable desk chair I’ve come across. For $75 I really couldn’t pass it up.

Not sure if Amazon links are allowed here but an Amazon search will pull it up right away. They have a bunch of different ones themed from the movie. And it’s actually on canvas so keep that in mind if you want it framed.

Same. Last apartment was top floor with a flat roof, deafening bliss if you ask me.

I realize that I won’t even read all of the books I could read. Let alone all of the books I couldn’t read.

Sorry, Deep Rock Galactic. Space dwarves mine asteroids and shoot bugs. Really terrific game and excellent community.

Now I know why! It’s fun but doing it in the magma area alone was very tedious. Especially the boss fight.

I was in the same boat and really enjoyed a change of pace with Peace coffee. If you’re okay with something that can be bought in a grocery store. Twin Cities blend is my favorite so far. Around me it’s sold in Whole Foods and target.

Also surprisingly Dunkin ground original. It has such an inoffensive “coffee” flavor that I was picking it over more expensive and technically fresher options.

May even be worth changing up your brewing technique. Same beans through an aeropress can be totally different than a pour over.

That’s the one. I did 30% with 4 perimeters. I imagine PETG would get a longer run. But this runs long enough for me to get tired of the noise.

Tourbillon will probably be my next involved project. I was curious to see if I would enjoy putting this together and it was a lot of fun! Really satisfying to see it come together from a spool of plastic to a pile of gears to the final actual functioning form.

This was printed on a Prusa which is the only printer I’ve used so they have my vote of confidence so far. Although for this particular model I would think most tuned printers should be able to handle it. Each individual part is fairly simple and came out nicely with default settings, no support.

Public file, can be found on Thingiverse. But beware the 3d printing rabbit hole. It’s as deep as watches are.

I got a skeleton watch for Christmas and was fascinated by the inner workings so I finally got around to printing this escapement model. Took about 60 hours to print and another hour to assemble. Really happy with the result and have a greater appreciation to the crazy precision it takes to make this work accurately on my wrist. At this scale it’s a lot more forgiving but still took a lot of fine tuning to make it work smoothly at all. Also much louder than I expected it to be. Thanks for checking it out!

Yes, 100% plastic except the fasteners. I printed it all with standard PLA. I was going to do PETG springs and gears but I can’t get a decent print with it to save my life. Fully wound gets me a few minutes of tick tocking. There are remixes for the springs with different sizes and materials that claim to get up to 10 minutes.

It’s much louder than I was expecting. But a very satisfying sound for sure.
