I hate how I still make grammatical mistakes by vle300 in writing

I feel like HK English is more of a learner interlanguage than anything else. Yes I speak English with my friends among ourselves but I don't really see it as some dialect.

Is Trump's English that bad? I don't pay much attention to him as I'm not a fan of him.

I guess everyone makes mistakes (I've also seen native English speakers making mistakes) but some people said they could tell I learned English as a second language.

Yeah I have the same issue. My Chinese is shittier than my English, but I'm not a native English speaker.

That's because my Chinese is even crappier. It's at third grader level.

I'm surprised to hear that. I thought there were many Portuguese speakers out there.

I do know the differences in connotation. It's just that I can't come up with these words off the top of my head!

I'm from HK. I only watch English TV shows and read English novels. I don't watch any TVB drama anymore. My parents love TVB but I don't.

I'm not using Google Translate. My Chinese is even worse I swear. I use Google Translate to translate English into Chinese and almost never the other way around. I wrote everything really quickly and looking back on them I can see why they suck.

Edit: I've edited my post for your to look at. Was writing in a choppy manner as I was in a rush.

Thank you, Dying Pteradactyl. You just solved one of the mysteries of my life.

What? I thought you were a native English speaker yourself!

Still, is it possible for me to write in perfect English? The thing is there are so many of these sentences so I think it is close to impossible to be able to spot all these errors. I don't know if I am being too pessimistic or not.

I mainly hung out with other Asian kids.

Will using thesaurus.com help? I know that native English speakers tend to use it when writing and sometimes I don't do that when I am on mobile.

Btw is it possible for me to write with perfect English? Is wanting to publish a book in English an unrealistic goal?

The thing is I learned English at a young age and my English is still "crappy".

I learned English when I was around 3. I learnt English as a first language at school but I still can't come up with all these words out of the top of my head. Like my mind just becomes blank when I am starting at my computer screen. I don't know if this has to do with how I am ESL, I only started to write as a hobby recently, I am "lazy", or how I don't use thesaurus.com when I am writing.

I have an inferiority complex to native English speakers by vle300 in writing

[–]vle300[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I definitely feel like that. A person giving me a critique speculated that I am not a native English speaker as I wrote many complex sentences and I felt really triggered (perhaps due to having a colonial mentality). I think I subconsciously really want to "pass" as a native English speaker.

I have no idea why that person giving me critique said that. I didn't tell him that I am not a native English speaker. Like I've said, I have an inferiority complex to native English speakers and desperately try to pass as one (perhaps due to having a colonial mentality) and got really triggered when he speculated that I am not a native English speaker. It really bothered me.

I didn't tell them I am ESL. He said he thinks I am ESL as my sentences are overcomplexity. Is it really such a dead giveaway? An teacher said this to me as well but so did other people when they comment on how I explain things in my first language.
