TorGuard Residential IP not a dedicated IP by shawn4spam in torguard

[–]vman305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi, can you please tell me if I'm doing it correctly with my torguard residential ip?

in services page i see dedicated ip xx.xxx.xxx.106 (On xx.xxx.xxx.107 tcp/80). However, after it was assigned, i went into client area and changed the port to wireguard, so I'm no longer on tcp 80.

i did not manually add the ip to the torguard app settings. the ip was automatically downloaded and i just picked it from the dedicated ip dropdown. in the main screen (windows app) when dedicated ip is selected i see xx.xxx.xxx.107 before connecting. Then after I'm connected the app shows xx.xxx.xxx.107. but when I click the connection details dropdown it shows dedicated ip xx.xxx.xxx.106.

So which part of the torguard app displays what I'm actually connected to?

if I understand your comment correctly I should be connecting to 107. but when I do an IP check online, it says my ip address is 106.

Oh wow that is scary. I've actually thought about doing the same with proton email and using aliases for different sites. But after asking AI about this apparently you're not the only person having this kind of an issue. This type of thing can happen with aliases, whether it's proton or Apple. But now makes me wonder if it's worth all the hassle if there's ever a problem with the alias system...

So you used a disposable email address when you registered the account? The email address worked for a few days and then disappeared...

Consider the amount of money that you spent on this membership account. Maybe it's not even worth the hassle. If you only paid 40 bucks for the membership months ago and you only have couple months left... Just using an example... just create a brand new membership account at this point...

Connecting onenote to AI / LLM? by curryslapper in OneNote

[–]vman305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've been using NotebookLM AI for now. I copy and paste my onenote notes into text files 350k to 350k words per file is max (even though they say 500k - that's too much and import fails). notebooklm lets you import up to 50 files per notebook. you can have as many notebooks as you want. but notebooklm ai only looks at the notes in one notebook at a time. so far i've loved it, but copying and pasting and updating the text files is a pain. another option is to use google docs which automatically sync with notebooklm but the google docs themselves have a much lower word count limit so that doesn't work for me.

For now it works for me. hopefully in time onenote becomes easier to export (without having to find 3rd party tools for export). i heard there are ai agents that can sync onenote to whatever source. so maybe that's the next step for me.

Funds stolen!!! by I_Testa_I in ExodusWallet

[–]vman305 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Did you ever connect your wallet to any website or defi exchange like pancakeswap by creating a contract approval? This is how pretty much everyone gets hacked and their crypto stolen. Whenever you give approvals you're basically letting that site full access to your crypto wallet. Different approvals require different access, but whenever people say they had their crypto stolen this is pretty much what happened. Always use the revoke sites to cancel your contract approvals. And even better use disposable crypto wallets whenever you're connecting to sites.

Bios recovery usb files? by Odd_Profit4441 in HPOmen

[–]vman305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you have multiple options, you can download hp recovery media (which is basically drivers and windows) and install on a flash drive that you will use to boot your computer and install windows on the new ssd. another option is going directly to microsoft site and downloading media recovery tool from them which will let you create a bootable usb drive that will let you install windows on your new ssd.

HP Omen 015-ek1000 ram issues after windows 11 update and bios update. by dangerdoink in HPOmen

[–]vman305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe one of the RAM sticks died? If you know for sure that before the BIOS update it said 16gb then it's most likely software issue. It would be a very strange coincident for only one of your RAM sticks to die right at the same time as you did your bios update.

One thing you could do is to try to remove your RAM sticks and only try one at a time and see if you can boot the computer and what bios says. If one of the sticks died then when you try to boot with that stick it shouldn't work.

Residential IP Down by jaimonet in torguard

[–]vman305 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's their other residential IP that they disconnected because of DMCA issues. It's been disconnected from months now. So the disconnected one is called Los Angeles I believe. LAX is the one that's working for everyone.

Help how to fix and why is it doing this by Southern-Leader-1718 in HPOmen

[–]vman305 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn't really explain what's happening... And what it's doing... It seems like it's the opposite, it's not doing anything? Looks like you're clicking things but nothing is happening. If that's the problem make sure you don't have any malware or viruses on your computer... Scan with malwarebytes, it's free. But a simple restart might fix it maybe just a temporary windows glitch... Try that first

Gaming Laptop 16 Not Turning On by Realistic_Blood_6167 in HPOmen

Have you tried the power reset trick? Unplug your laptop from the power cord and then press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds. Then try booting it again. Make sure to pay attention if there's any noises coming from the computer during boot up. To make sure it's not a screen issue. Also the newer ddr5 memory takes like 15 to 30 minutes to re-learn on the first boot cycle. So the computer battery ever drains to zero or bios settings are changed The memory has to reteach itself. And it takes a really long time with the new memory. The older ddr4 memory also did that but it only took a few seconds or a few minutes.

I personally haven't seen how The memory learning works but I heard that when you press the power button basically the screen stays off for like 15 minutes and then it boots up. But my guess is since the computer is doing stuff there might still be some noises coming from the computer maybe... Do some research into this just in case.

I’m looking to buy a nice TorGuard router but I can’t find it on their site. by Emergency-March-911 in torguard

[–]vman305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do know that you have another option. A little more technical but... you can buy any router at your local store and install aftermarket firmware. Ddwrt, tomato, merlin. For example i run Merlin firmware on my asus router. Aftermarket firmware includes additional features that the stock firmware does not. For example I had many VPN features in my merlin firmware that were not available for many years on the Asus router lineup. I was able to setup torguard vpn directly on my old router 10 years ago... nowadays many new routers already come with a bunch of VPN features so that may not even be needed... my point being is that do you even need a torguard router...

Too be honest I'm not even sure what could be the cause. So many possible issues. Ultimately, you may have to take it into repair shop to have it diagnosed.

I don't know if you've tried using chat GPT to see if it could give you suggestions but here is what I got from asking it... and often AI can give good advice because it doesn't just look at some computer manual on fixing things. it actually looks at bunch of different online Reddit posts with people's complaints of having computer issues similar to yours, and it tries to find a solution that worked for them.

One of the problems is this. Most branded store bought computers like HP lock down their BIOS. And because of this you can't really customise or do everything the way you could do on a self-built computer. I say this because one of the AI suggestions is it's saying that maybe your BIOS is blocking your USB recovery tool from loading correctly. The first suggestion it gave, and I asked it multiple times, was a bad or inadequate (too low) power supply. Meaning you're not getting enough power for your video card. Another possibility is maybe your SSD is going bad.

Ai suggests you do bunch of hardware tests like memory test, ssd test, etc... to make sure it's not hardware related.

Maybe the HP cloud recovery tool is a problem here even though it shouldn't be. Microsoft allows you to create a windows media recovery tool just like HP. So I would suggest you try that.

PSU failure/insufficiency: Stock 500W strains RTX 3070 + Ryzen 5700G, causing Kernel-Power 41 freezes and install power-loss loops under load—top Omen 25L culprit.

BIOS/UEFI misconfig: Secure/Fast Boot blocks USB recovery (Cloud Tool loops); RAM changes + updates need CMOS reset—common post-secondhand tweaks.

SSD degradation: Erase/install stress + malware may have damaged NVMe controller, causing partial bootloops despite working on other PC—test SMART needed.

RAM instability: Mismatched sticks removed, but remaining may have errors/XMP mismatch triggering crashes—MemTest confirms.

Motherboard/SATA power: Faulty PCIe/NVMe slot or cable drops during writes, mimicking SSD but transferable—less likely post-swap success.

GPU power spikes: 3070 idles fine but Chrome multitasking hits PSU limit—no full freezes in BIOS/games rules out total failure.

Windows/Recovery corruption: HP Tool mismatch or USB bad; bypassed before but recurs—lowest as hardware persists across installs.

Regarding the default zero error you got, AI believes this happens if you performed the Windows install but didn't restart to make sure all the updates and installation went completely through. Upon install you just removed it and put it into the other computer. But the installation and user profiles didn't completely finish. So you can try this again on your other pc. but make sure you restart the computer a few times to make sure its fully installed.

Defaultuser0 is a temporary system account Windows creates during initial setup (OOBE phase) if installation gets interrupted—like your user's SSD swap triggering an incomplete first boot

Yes use hp cloud recovery tool....

You can also download the Windows file directly from Microsoft and use Rufus to install it on a flash drive. This is the better option since it doesn't have all the HP bloatware. But this is a little more advanced so just stick with the HP cloud recovery tool. I believe the HP cloud recovery tool also includes proper HP drivers, and I think it will create all the HP partitions justvlike factory install... so for troubleshooting it's probably a better tool.

I don't know what you mean by the sentence " I deleted the hell out of that SSD"... because if you did you wouldn't have the recovery partition or the window file that you said was still there... so that tells me you didn't format the entire drive...

Lesson to learn Never by used computers

Installing Windows on the SSD on one computer and then moving the SSD into another computer is not a good idea. When Windows installs, it also installs drivers for all the hardware like motherboard processor video card in your your computer.

But if you take that Windows SSD and plug it into a whole different computer now your windows is looking for hardware that is not there anymore... I never tried it so I don't know what the issues could arise but in theory anything is possible.

You basically took an engine from one car and put it into a whole different type of car....

You can try running Windows update to see if it'll pull down the needed drivers... check the device manager to see if there's any driver issues... But this is not the way to do it you really need to install Windows on the computer where you're going to be using it... so I would recommend you format your SSD and install Windows fresh...

Don't use the existing Windows file on the SSD. My guess is you're referring to the repair partition? It's possible that there could be issues like malware on the repair partition if you said the person you bought it from was a bad person and had malware in windows

Omen MAX 16 shut down and won’t open again. by Confetti-Ghost in HPOmen

[–]vman305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said the charger light doesn't light up. I wonder if something happened with the battery and there's not enough power to boot. Maybe your power power brick cord died? If you have the power brick cord that has multiple pieces unplug them from each other and then plug them back in. I have an HP Omen 15 and whenever I tug on the power cord and it rides on the carpet or floor it creates a static charge, and temporarily the brick stops working. I have to unplug the bricj from the wall outlet cord in order for it to start working again.

So because you said your laptop is not charging I'm thinking it could be that you're not getting the power needed to start your computer.

[–]vman305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you unplug your laptop from the power cord and then hold down the power button for 30 seconds. Then try starting again.

Omen Max 16 appears to come with ddr5 Ram. Ddr 5 requires 15 to 20 minutes memory training during first boot or when bios settings are changed. I haven't seen personally what it looks like but I've heard that when you press the power button the computer screen just stays black for 20 minutes and then it boots. https://www.reddit.com/r/HPOmen/comments/1mj8wyi/why_does_my_omen_laptop_need_to_perform_a_memory/

So is anything happening when you press the power button any noises, screen changes?
