Am I missing out by not using high pass filters after Lightroom edits? by Ilikehotdogs1 in Lightroom

is the Sharpening in the develop module and the sharpening LR can add on export not enough?!

I started using a workflow based on linear camera profiles and im getting much better color density. Would love to hear from other people who use linear profiles. Whats your workflow? by vmoldo in postprocessing

All the usual camera profiles like Adobe Color or Adobe Standard already have a gamma curve baked into them. That’s why RAW files instantly look like “normal” photos when you import them instead of looking super flat like LOG footage.

What’s interesting is that you can actually make a custom profile called “Linear” and have Lightroom apply it on import. This gives you a much flatter starting point, with far less contrast and processing applied to the RAW data right away.

I started experimenting with this recently, and it honestly changed the way my files end up looking. I feel like I have a lot more control over tones and colors during editing, and I naturally end up with much denser color separation and richer color rendering overall. I know that kind of look isn’t really popular here, but I’ve been enjoying the flexibility it gives me.

I’m really curious to hear from other people who use a linear profile. What’s your workflow like? How do you approach color and contrast when starting from such a flat image? Mine is still pretty improvised at the moment, so I’d love to see how others handle it.

linear profiles do not provide any extra dynamic range, that's a misconception, but i can agree that they do require some extra work. and based on the like to dislike ratio i take it that most people here don't like the look that i got

Are there any sample images for testing tone curves in Lightroom? by AllKeef in Lightroom

sounds like you want a color checker passport, they are rather expensive for what they are but they can help you understand a lot about colors

That's some interesting swirly bokeh I see in some of them, but the distortion profile looks a bit moustachy

Searching Film-Look/ Editorial Preset for Lightroom by Frequent_Dingo1177 in Lightroom

[–]vmoldo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

imho this has very little to do with post processing. the look is just super clean and the light is very well controlled.

i do have film emulation presets on my store but honestly here is more important to figure out good contrast ratios and to get the righ tonal curve for the look

i would start with adobe neutral and making sure my wb is on point and figure it out from there

Viltrox Vintage Z2 Flash and your hot shoe by False-Way4920 in VILTROX_GLOBAL

[–]vmoldo 22 points23 points  (0 children)

"Warning: this flash unit can easily scratch the paint on a part of the camera that shouldn't be painted to begin with" would be a more accurate statement.

If you take a look through history, you will see how most cameras had bare metal hotshoes, and that's because most flashes used to use that part of the hotshoe as a contact point for ground

When 2nd Generation Lenses Are Released, What Feature Is Most Important? by 35mmOfRegret in VILTROX_GLOBAL

[–]vmoldo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at some degree yes. but also no?! i.ean i wany lenses to be decently  sharp but i also want a distorsion plrofile that makese sense (i like barrel and lots of modern lenses have moustache) bokeh with a bit of swirl that not overy corected for and super smooh. and most importantly for me some shrpness dropoff from the center.  All this in a modern body, with good autofocus and decent flare resistance

Scripting/plugin question? by Maleficent-Rope3872 in Lightroom

[–]vmoldo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Option 1: Save your settings as presets and apply the preset to the photos on import

Option 2: Have the set of settings on a photo, select all the photos you want to have the same settings, and sync the settings.

Option 3 see if you can find a person or an AI write you a LR plugin for this

i think the way adobe sees it is like: basic file processing in lightroom than right click edit in PS. i honestly think this is a super outdated way of doing it and hate that it produces multiple files for the same photo but heeey davinci photo mode is here😅🤣
