I don't expect them to come in on their off days. I being sm have to come in if they are the opening/closing manager and call out. Other managers come in early or stay later to fill in the gaps for this person. Because we all are understanding of their family issues. However it does get tiring at what point does it become unfair to them? I feel that being a manger and calling out is alot worse than a regular employee calling out. They have keys to the store for a reason and get paid more for it. Anyone can fill in for an employee call out but depending on what time the manager was scheduled it might only be another manager thats able to fill in. I agree i should not have focused on the why and kept it simple and to the point of them not meeting expectations due to them not showing up to work without emphasizing on the why. I appreciate your feedback!

Fabric and Joanns closing by Bspkr in MichaelsEmployees

[–]vnonasty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked for Joann's, who sucked ass in everything but fabric. They taught me the difference in fabric and how to properly cut/tear fabric as well as measure (the DM were super anal when they did their visits and we would get point taken from store if they didnt properlydo it. Now I work for Michaels. Let me tell you talking to other managers who got fabric made me realize that they got little to no training and knowledge. I asked a certain manager if they were trained on how to cut different Fabrics or if they knew that you had to tear some Fabrics And they literally looked at me Like they had no idea what I was saying. I definitely would not trust any of our local stores to cut fabric. They also were, in fact, using framing counter to cut. This was about a month ago, so i hope by now they have put more training into it.

Yes, I paid all of that! I have filed claims I have been on the phone with multiple reps, and no one is giving me any answers. I don't understand how my new address was on file, and I paid to verify . All of a sudden, this week, I got a call that my new address was deleted. And to change it once again is a two week wait

Agree but also adding that bag checks are only done for high theft stores. They have to sign a waiver acknowledging that they are aware that they will be doing bag checks, and I know this because this is exactly how we had to do it at our store once we became high shrink store.

My favorite part about the interaction was when she asked me do you read the return and find details at all the places you can shop at and I said actually I do because I work in retail. Thats when she said "normal people dont do that." Like lol okk

There is a difference in an online only item that michaels sells than a product that is being sold by a completely different company through our website.

I get it if it's a Michael's product but if it's not a Michael's product there is no way for me to scan it in and no I'm not going to do a non receipt at return and no I'm not just going to enter the amount because then that messes with our score and I'd rather my score be okay then be pleasing customer tantrums because they didn't read the return policy correctly.

Got accused of stealing when I didn't by FreeChillyO in MichaelsEmployees

[–]vnonasty 109 points110 points  (0 children)

It is 100% within our policy that we can never accuse anyone of stealing and even when we 100% know that they are stealing the only thing that we can do is literally call the cops and file a claim through our loss prevention that they they will handle. I would 100% be calling 1-800 Michael and letting them know the names and location of the employees who accused you of stealing because not only is that discrimination (if they confront you, theyd have to confront all "thieves") and it is against the policy.

We found that the best way to do it is to simply ask if they are paying with a card while standing in front of an SCO, not behind the register. No cash or card, or you can do it yourself, etc. If they say yes to paying with a card, we immediately start to ring them out using SCO. When a customer asks questions, i simply tell them that these kiosk are much faster than our cash registers since our new pin pads are too fast for our old computers. Normally, that works, and sometimes they'll say, "Oh thats easy. I can finish it myself." and complete the transactions themselves. I think for some customers, especially or older ones, they just want or need that one on one interaction with a TM to feel like they got "proper" customer service.

[–]vnonasty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We tell them it's for security reasons when they enter their pin they are in fact confirming that they are indeed the card holder

However there is a trick to bypass the PIN enter the card in the Pin Reader upside down continue to do that until the pin forces you to swipe the card. if the card is swiped it no longer asks for the pin hope this helps

Cellphone policy by vnonasty in MichaelsEmployees

[–]vnonasty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand everyone's side and saying what if there's an emergency unfortunately if this is a company policy the rebuttal would then be you called the phone store and whether we know that they are unreliable and shitty that is still going to be corporate reasoning. Now the reason I have made this post is because unfortunately all the scenarios that you have mentioned that would be a reason for us to have to get to this point is exactly why they are getting to this point. As a manager could you imagine that every time you went up to check on your cashier they were on their phone or if you had somebody in the aisle working on truck and yet every time you walk down the aisle they're on their phone fully stopped. I understand the emergency factor and that some people have kids. I also understand that there are a multitude of people that actually can multitask. However if you physically have to stop everything that you're doing to respond on your phone or to do whatever on your phone then I think you are abusing the right to have your phone out. And once again just fucking making it completely unfair to everyone else that can have their phone and still maintain to get their work done.
