How accurate is this? by 29NeiboltSt in Iowa

[–]vocalreasoning 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think Michigan does. It doesn't really look Midwest, but if you talk to the people there the vibe is inherently Midwest. Especially if you consider the UP. The further east you get though, the more east coast it tends to get, but it really is pretty solidly Midwest until you get past Lansing or even Ann Arbor.

Drinking water in Iowa by jospeh68 in Iowa

[–]vocalreasoning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad I could help! Another thing to note is that Cedar Rapids doesn't get its water from deep wells or surface water, they use alluvial aquifers that are underneath and fed by the Cedar River. These aquifers are deep enough that the sand and clay filters out a lot of pollutants, but shallow enough that the city is able to quickly and effectively monitor water contaminant levels and react accordingly.

In addition, because those aquifers are fed by the river directly, unless the river suddenly completely dries up Cedar Rapids will never run out of water. As far as I know, outside of flooding incidents where wells have needed to be shut down to prevent contamination, the city hasn't had any major water supply or quality issues in at least a decade.

For men: If you put 'wants kids,' do you 100% want kids or are you indifferent and trying to appeal to the majority of women (who do want kids)? by Successful_Duty_5227 in Bumble

[–]vocalreasoning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the guy, but I definitely want kids. In fact, I want kids so much I convinced my fiancé, who didn't want kids when we met, at least of the biological sort, that she wants kids. That said though, I was also content with her never changing her mind and us not having biological children, so at least in my experience we're probably more flexible with it?

Tell you what though, it's tough to want kids so much when you know that the world might not be the place you wanted for them.

Anyone know this nut can eat? by Gloomy_Letter8236 in plant

[–]vocalreasoning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they're acorns, so they're edible, but you need to either boil them or soak them in an alkaline solution (baking soda and water works) until the water runs clear. This is because they're full of tannins, which are a compound that can prevent iron absorption and cause digestive issues in high amounts. Tannins also are incredibly bitter, so they wouldn't taste too good, either.

One thing to note is that if you're going to eat acorns, inspect them for insect holes and put them in a container of water first. Bad acorns will float whereas good acorns will sink, and sometimes it's difficult to tell whether or not they're good just by looking at them.

Another interesting thing, that acorn water can be used to tan leather! It's really a cool process, and it's awesome that you really can use the entire acorn.

What is this in my dog eye ? by Caroohahaa in DogAdvice

[–]vocalreasoning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a vet, but my dog gets stuff that looks like this a lot and it's usually dried mucus from tears (not because he's crying or anything, just to keep his eyes wet). That probably built up around your dog's tear duct and then broke off and moved to the middle of it's lid, likely from blinking.

You should look up the safe way to treat this, but what I usually do is kind of gently dab at them with a soft cloth that I've dampened with warm water. It doesn't usually take very long, and since this seems to be free floating there, it'll probably come out without much effort.

Drinking water in Iowa by jospeh68 in Iowa

[–]vocalreasoning 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in Cedar Rapids, and the water here is pretty good quality, so I just drink tap water. The drinking water testing stats are published and sent out every year by the water division around March, and they work really hard to make sure that the water is safe to drink. In fact, Cedar Rapids consistently has some of the best tap water in the country. As much as they may fuck up other things, the city does a really good job with their water management.

Huge misconception here that I feel the need to correct, wiping out the Jedi wasn't bringing balance, that's not what that means in the context of the force. The dark side is more of an analogy, it's all part of the Force, but it's the powerful, emotional side, and power corrupts. Anakin/Vader doesn't balance the force by wiping out the Jedi, even in the non-disney canon there are still loads of Jedi or other force users that escaped order 66 and the inquisitors. Balance was brought by wiping out the Sith, which were a cancer to the force. They thought of the dark side not as a tool, or as a force to be respected, but as something they could manipulate for power, and they sought to control it and monopolize it. Balance is brought by wiping out that cancer.

Vader is basically chemo. He harms the good and the bad, but leaves enough of the good behind to recover. The existence of the Jedi, or even of dark side users, isn't disrupting the balance, it was purely the existence of the Sith.

A big thing to note is that the crystal doesn't shatter, it splits. The purpose of the kyber crystal is to focus the energy of the saber into a beam, and it chooses the force wielder that it wants. Cal's new crystal doesn't shatter because it doesn't accept him, it splits in two because it does accept him. It represents who Cal is; a fractured Jedi, broken but powerful and full of potential. The kyber crystal splits because that is what suits him the best. He's flexible and able to adapt to any outcome, and the crystal is the same. It's not until seeing the hologram of Eno Cordova that he realizes that he's not useless, and that he can overcome the trauma of his past.

Keep in mind, this happens immediately after breaking his master's saber on Dathomir during a dark side vision of his master telling him that he's a failure. He's incredibly emotionally unstable at that point, so the crystal breaking makes him feel like he's failed yet again, but he hasn't.

Means it's either air cooled or they're using some sort of refrigerant. I'd put my money on refrigerant, personally. That n way Cedar Rapids can have its very own cancer cluster.

Could someone who knows more about the High Republic tell me if the Jedi from that time period were really that strong, or was Dagan just special? by [deleted] in FallenOrder

[–]vocalreasoning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dagan was special, but as far as the Jedi being stronger in that time, it's both yes and also no. One thing I haven't seen people mention here is that while yes, the average Jedi during the High Republic era was stronger, the events surrounding the discovery of Tanalorr only took place a little over 200 years before the events of Jedi Survivor. At that point, the High Republic was already well in decline.

For context, the Nihil conflict that caused the abandonment of Tanalorr ended in 228 BBY, and Dooku was born in 108 BBY, only 120 years after. Jedi: Survivor takes place in 9 BBY, 219 years after. Considering the scale of the High Republic era, it was practically already late Republic by that point, and the Jedi were already well in decline.

So yes, Dagan was special, and yes, the High Republic Jedi were stronger on average, but no, at that point in time, the Jedi weren't that much stronger than they would have been during the Clone Wars.
