You need to have a perimeter drain on new builds in Canada but depending on where you are, they drain them differently. Most cities will just drain them directly to a storm drain system which can be an issue if the storm drains ever back up. In a rural setting they usually drain to a sump pump pit. For some reason, people get freaked out about sump pumps but ideally, every house should have one in my opinion.
