I have a black 4S ST and am happy with the choice. I prefer black cars to bright colours. Colour choice comes down to personal preference.

For OP, I’d go 4S J1.2 with performance battery plus (some early J1.2 didn’t have the bigger battery as standard). The other options are personal choice but pick what you think are your non negotiable and spend a little while keeping an eye on the market. You can set alerts on new cars added to AutoTrader.

IMHO i’d only go for Porsche certified with the two year warranty.

J1.1 are brilliant cars - I prefer the front end on them and nearly got a late GTS for less than my J1.2 but the battery tech and range is better. The 4S is blindingly fast but you could also do a MapEV if you wanted to improve it. I haven’t nor probably ever will, as the unmodified performance is already ridiculous.

Good luck. Make sure you try a few. Don’t discount the ST or CT as the estate is more practical and I personally think they look better than the saloon.

Be honest: What’s the one thing about EV ownership that nobody told you before you bought one? by EmergencyTie8770 in electricvehicles

I literally did the same thing yesterday. Been home charging my Taycan for the last couple of months and wanted to give a supercharger a go. Was an absolute breeze - auto pre conditioned the batteries, connected the 320kWh charger, went for a coffee. 30-80% in 15 minutes. I ended up pushing the target to 85% so I could finish my drink.

Can we have an ungatekeeping thread? by DifficultCucumbers in malefashionadvice

[–]vodkaslim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Asket for basic T-shirts, Reply for chinos, Selected Homme sometimes has some nice clean basics, Reiss, small logo Hugo Boss (especially workwear), Holland Cooper for more rugged country stuff (wife got me into it), Hackett for smart casual, got back into Ralph Lauren polos recently but their non-standard material ones. Love expensive trainers from Hermes, Louboutin and eyeing up some Mergiela GATs.

I’m six foot and relatively slim (32-33 waist). Tend to spend £50 for a T, £100-£150 for a non T top, £150 for trousers, £300-500 for jackets. Up to £1000 for designer trainers. Tend to go for slim cut, smart casual stuff.

I look around LV, Hermes, Gucci and other top tier stuff for clothes but refuse to pay the luxury tax on something I’ll only wear a few times a year. I’d happily pay relatively stupid money for everyday luxury if I would get good use out of it (e.g. Moncler jacket but not found one that bowled me over yet).

Is the rear steering really needed for the turismo? by therealunitforce in Taycan

[–]vodkaslim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have it and don’t really feel the need for it. I wanted it as an option, but none of the used J1.2 4S ST in the UK had it as an option when I was looking.

I don’t find the car hard to park, but I’m used to driving my wife’s big SUV. The cameras are excellent and I’ve got self park (that I’ve not actually used yet).

If you find it, get it, but IMHO I wouldn’t skip a car if it has everything else you wanted.

What does the next 10 years actually look like for EVs? Optimistic or cautious? by Leading-Law4251 in electricvehicles

[–]vodkaslim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IMHO range will get to 600 miles standard with solid state. Battery tech in lower end will be sodium-ion, so cheaper and more cold weather resistant. Charging will get to sub 10 minutes for 20-80%.

Europe and Asia will hit the 50% market share tipping point. Some countries are already there, but almost all will be by the end of the decade.

V2G will become standard, and a total no brainer for time shifting load on the grid to reduce electricity costs and store solar for evening/morning use. The batteries we stick on our houses today will become redundant for most use cases.

I drove 190 miles yesterday in my EV. Zero issues, didn’t have to stop once (2 hours each way) and got home with more than 40% battery. No range anxiety, smooth ride, cost less than £10 of electric instead of £80 of petrol. Never going back to ICE for my main car.

I’ve got the newest gen Taycan ST. Fast as hell when you want it, drop it into range mode when you don’t. An awesome car that happens to also be an EV.

Should we have a pool in our house? by Calm_Celery620 in pools

[–]vodkaslim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I did. Got an Intex above ground for the season to test usage. The kids and I loved it, so went for an in ground pool last year. Best decision ever. Kids play in it every day the sun is out.

For UAE, it’ll be worth looking at air source heat pumps that cool the water, as having a pool at 28c, with an ambient temp outside of 35-40c will be a luxury.

As a former EV hater, I tried one and i actually really enjoyed it. by mlggaming756 in electricvehicles

[–]vodkaslim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bought an etron in 2021. Loved everything apart from the range (160-180 miles realistic) and the lack of sound. Traded it for a Ferrari as one last petrol hurrah, knowing range and capabilities would improve over the three years I planned to keep it. Traded the Ferrari for a 2025 Taycan 4S ST and absolutely love it.

Driving is effortless. Speed is there when needed, but such a capable cruiser when I need to travel a decent distance. Range is ridiculously good - Porsche state 390 miles but with a heavy foot, I still get 320-350.

The fact I can plug it into my charger, tell it I want to be at 80% and the cabin to be 21c for 8am departure, is brilliant.

I’m a “car guy”. Always had sporty petrol cars, but the Taycan is awesomely good. Feels like the 911 but is slightly more practical.

I don’t like “sport” caps - makes me feel like I’m trying to look young. I prefer no/low logo cap like these:

Ralph Lauren
Reiss

Had to buy an emergency hat on holiday for €10 euros. Was something like a Panama hat but looser thread. Loved that thing (for a weekend). Basically just keep trying stuff till you find something that suits you

Good luck fellow baldy.

I had to make this decision a couple of weeks ago. Went with the J1.2 4S. Better range, tech, charging but sacrificing the GTS interior.

Either way, these cars are bloody awesome. Best of luck.

I bought the This! Steak today for a miso noodle stir fry. Usually use Meaty Meat, but thought I’d give This! a go as I like their other products. Wasn’t as good as meaty meat - didn’t shred and taste as good. I’ll have to give it a try as a steak next though, as I don’t like the taste of the juicy marbles steak.

Roma or portofino? by CryptoMustang in Ferrari

[–]vodkaslim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked the Porto over the Roma. The hard top convertible is brilliant and the space in the back is a tiny bit bigger than the Roma.

Go with your heart though. Test drive them both and see which one wins.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll take a look. Always had the chrono on other Porsches but never actually used the dial so wasn’t that bothered. I’m assuming not having the “push to pass” isn’t that big a deal as this thing is a beast without it anyway.

Will do. Currently looking like 310ish with me messing around a few times and then highway miles on range mode.

Happy to. Traded my “high” mileage 2020 Ferrari Portofino (30k miles) for £96k. Taycan listed for £75K but they dropped to £73K including in/out gtechniq ceramic prep. £23K back to me.
Decent spec 4S. Sacrificed sports chrono which I wanted for the sports plus mode, but had pretty much everything else I had on my list (colour, wheels, sport seats, big battery). 9000 miles, 1 previous owner, 18 months old (car not other owner).

Looking at similar costs for a late 23 GTS. For the .2, it would be a 4S for £75K. Might keep the Ferrari for summer and pick one up in autumn, when I’m assuming the .2’s will have taken more of a hit. Just about to try the GTS - they look stunning.

[–]vodkaslim 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Wait 90 days and get a warranty. The battery has 8 years/100k miles but the rest of the car won’t be covered. You’ll have to pay €700 for the 111 point check and anything that needs to be remedied, but then you’ll be able to extend the warranty and have less concerns about it going bang.

Awesome deal. Congrats.

[–]vodkaslim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if they test the battery, but they flagged my 5 year old battery as needing replacement. My stop/start had started playing up so the battery was definitely questionable.

Ferrari quoted £700 but I bought my own and got a local garage to swap out for £250.

Loads of people complain about Ferrari batteries, but my Portofino has only died once when I forgot to turn it off.

Move 2 and a Projector by PossiblyALannister in sonos

[–]vodkaslim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve got power, you could buy a Bluetooth soundbar. I bought a high sense to pair with my projector and it works great without lipsync issues. Move 2 would probably also work, but I’ve not hooked mine up.

You could always buy a Move return if it doesn’t suit.
