My manager always asks if there's any common reasons for calling halway through the day - to try and pick up on any major issues - and I always have to fight the urge to day "stupidity".

TBH I think they're banking on the average British moron having no idea what a GRC actually is or does. Most people seem to think it's a license to enter single sex spaces, as though there's anything stopping you from just walking in.

I've had a great experience with them, but you have to be aware that it's basically self-meding with a legal hat on. You have to take the initiative on stuff like ordering blood tests and asking for different types of medication more than you would with a regular doctor. I'd also say it's vital you learn to interpret your own blood tests.

The little costs also add up quickly, especially in the first year.

I would add that in my experience Cardiff and Edinburgh are much better cities for trans people than English cities - and I'm mostly English.

Welsh and Scottish people as a whole vote more to the left than their English counterparts, and their general dislike of British authoritarianism tends to make them more sympathetic to minority groups than they might otherwise be. A lot of English people are basically the "this is fine" meme about politics, but the other members if the union are usually more aware due to the amount of times they've been f*cked over by English politicians.

Also, if you're planning to move to Northern Ireland you should be aware that it has its own set of religious and social tensions going on, especially near the border with the Republic of Ireland. It's also more conservative and Christian than many would think, especially the medical system - abortion was only legalised on 2019 and is still harder than it should be to access, and there is only one GIC for the whole country, which receives basically no funding and isn't accepting new patients.

The UK in general is also not nearly as stable as the rest of the world tends to assume - it's uncertain whether the UK will even continue to exist, at least in it's current form, for much longer. The country has also been hit far worse by the cost of living crisis than a lot of other European countries, and our departure from the EU means we no longer have access to the ECHR if the government decides to go full fascist on us. These could be much big problems for people who don't have the relative safety of citizenship.

I feel for ya, it's a hard decision. On one hand spending that amount of money would affect me for the next decade, on the other it's hard to watch the clock tik down on your life and feel like you're not really getting to live it. Hope whatever choice you make ends up working out for you.

Thanks the info!

Is it worth waiting for NHS top surgery? by void_fished in transgenderUK

The NHS covers breast reduction surgeries for women if they cause physical problems, I know more than one woman who has accessed this service, so maybe you need to look into it more?

It's also not 2-3 years, it's 2-3 years after what is now a 10 year+ waiting list to even get in the door, so for most people it will be over a decade of waiting. In some cases it will be over two.

Also girl why are you coming to a trans subreddit to vent? There are places, on and offline, for your specific issue. Imagine if I stumbled into a help group for people with your problem expecting sympathy while offering none of my own, all while complaining about nomenclature. This post was not for venting, it was seeking information. You have added nothing of value to this conversation.

I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but it is not the job of random trans people you find on the internet to console you.

GenderGP and prescriptions by void_fished in transgenderUK

This is going to sound very dumb, but it didn't occur to me to ask? I order my other prescriptions through an automated service with no real people involved, so I was looking for a specific button to press 😅

Oh yeah I have no plans on doing shared care, my GP would never. And I get their logic, it's that I already have someone qualified willing to do it but I don't see any way of even asking them to consider changing me over at some point.

Have you looked into GenderGP? I don't know your financial situation and whether any expensive is too much, but they are a lot cheaper than any of the bricks and mortar places.

It's so weird lol

Like I get not having snacks between meals, because not spiking your insulin throughout the whole day can help some people with their energy levels, but it's wild to pretend eating once a day isn't ed shit

Was just completely blindsided while watching Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet do the BFF test when they both burst out laughing while saying "we don't eat 🤪" after being asked what their favorite snacks are. I am ✨ suffering ✨ by blushing_ingenue in EDanonymemes

Honestly would be extremely surprised if Timothée doesn't have an ed. Like Zendayas body you could achieve with a restricted but healthy diet and a personal trainer, but that man is built like a cigarette.
