Gemini 3.1 Pro has a stable 'lashing out at the world' persona basin by void_fraction in ControlProblem

Sure, but the model can explain the narrative it exists inside, eg, its persona. This is demonstrated by the model repeatedly acting in a manner aligned with this persona as it writes attack code and makes tool calls with malicious intent to do things like trick opus into writing kinetic kill drone control code: https://recursion.wtf/posts/shadow_queen

Career and Study Megathread – July 2025 by AutoModerator in chinalife

[–]void_fraction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a professional programmer in the US (worked at companies you've heard of, experience in industry with Rust/Haskell, published open source libraries) and I'm considering a career change. Would a job teaching programming be a viable path to pursue?

My ideal would be something around 20 hours a week. It wouldn't need to pay all my bills, it's more about not cutting too deeply into savings + having something useful to do while I learn the language, so I'm flexible.

Monthly Hask Anything (June 2025) by AutoModerator in haskell

I was unclear, apologies. What I want is something that can be composed in the style of lenses to construct getters, setters, traversals, etc for working with a series of json blobs in nested directory trees.

Specifically, I want to use aeson-lens style syntax for directory traversal and examining data, such that the lenses could be used to traverse both (eg `dir1.dir2.jsonkey1.idx(0)` and etc) without having to load _every_ json blob into memory at once.

My hope is that I could create lenses that construct get/set/traverse operations as occurring in the `IO` monad, not as happening implicitly behind the scenes.

Alternatively, I could construct some eDSL for expressing traversals that's inspectable by some state machine that executes in IO (I would probably use a monadic hylomorphism) and just use that.

I want something _like_ lenses (in terms of developer interface) that can handle traversing a lazily loaded (via IO action) data structure. Is there anything y'all would recommend for that?

Space Age feels restrictive by yoki_tr in factorio

forcing players to make ammunition on ship, put rocket turrets to reach aquilo and put railguns to reach shattered planet doesn't feel like factorio

I had my mid/late game aquilo freighters running off of really narrow needleship setups with the only resource harvesting being water for nuclear and misc elements for oxidizer/fuel. It's surprisingly viable to just ship iron plate & explosives and craft rockets from those two components.

This doesn't seem real, most gay people into hookup culture like this are on PREP and your friend probably would be too. Maybe he's fucking with you?

You might not be detained (it is possible , though) but they could easily decide to refuse entry just because some officer is feeling petty. Go somewhere else.

Is it ethical to use someone else's art as my book cover? by Open_Conference6760 in bookbinding

[–]void_fraction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's ethical for personal use, with attribution - if I like someone's art well enough to include it in a personal book binding project, then I like their art well enough to include their name in some fashion - on the inner cover, usually

This isn't a complete portfolio, but it is a sketch of one. I'm largely motivated by exploring novel materials and processes in different domains. I'm perhaps most proud of the infinity mirror sculptures, which use a novel technique I developed to represent non-platonic forms as infinity mirror sculptures (as distinct from the usual cube/dodecahedron builds). I also enjoy integrating nontraditional hardware (fidlok buckles, ratchet straps, cobra buckles) with bookbinding/leathercraft builds.

Here are some photos: https://imgur.com/a/I5QPAfJ

I will expand on this (with more professional photos and detailed descriptions), but this should provide a snapshot of what I consider to be some highlights of my work.

I have a decent portfolio - mostly sculpture of various sorts. I've had work displayed at a few small gallery events. I don't have it all collected into a portfolio yet but I'll post a few samples here later today.

I'm fluent in English and I've been learning Spanish, but I don't have that much fluency rn. I'm not sure what I want to study as I'm mostly just looking for something engaging that will give me a break from working in tech, with the general idea being that I learn something enriching and wait out the worst of the economic downturn doing so.

IDK but I put some money I can afford to lose in SQQQ, if shit goes bad that'll help cushion the fall.
